Located on the original Chisholm Trail, the 33-acre Mollie Spencer Farm, formerly Kirkpatrick Family Farm, has played host to annual community events for the past several decades. One of the oldest pieces of continually owned family real estate in Oklahoma, the Mollie Spencer Farm, formerly Kirkpatrick Family Farm, was originally founded in 1894 as the Spencer Homestead. Now operated by the Kirkpatrick Family Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, the Fund ensures the protection of the property for public use and wildlife protection for generations to come. Spencer, founded the town of Yukon in 1891. Mollie Spencer was the grandmother of Oklahoma Philanthropist, John Kirkpatrick, and great-great grandmother to his grandson Christian Keesee, who has owned the farm for 40 years. Enjoyed by thousands annually during festivals such as the Chisholm Trail Historical Preservation Society’s Easter on the Prairie and the Chisholm Trail Festival, the Mollie Spencer Farm has played host to annual events for the past several decades. Located on the original Chisholm Trail, the Farm serves to educate the community on prairie living during this post-Civil War cattle drive era. Families have enjoyed participating in activities of the period, farm animals, food, dance, music, and demonstrations of traditional cowboy culture, such as gunfight reenactments and blacksmithing. The annual Iron Thistle Scottish Festival at the Farm is a unique celebration of Celtic culture, complete with music, dance, food, heavy athletic competitions, and sheepherding demonstrations.

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs on October 24 for an outdoor screening of The Wizard of Oz under the stars. Enjoy popcorn, hot cocoa, c***r and a themed craft before settling in for the movie. 🍿✨

General admission is $10, with a VIP experience available for $25 that includes early entry, a box dinner and a little extra time to explore the farm and meet the animals.

Each fall, monarch butterflies pass through Oklahoma as part of one of the longest insect migrations in the world. 🦋 Some travel thousands of miles to reach their overwintering grounds in central Mexico, using the sun and an internal biological compass to help guide them south.

Along the way, monarchs depend on nectar-rich flowers for the energy they need to keep moving. Places like Mollie Spencer Farm provide important stopping points during this journey, with native plants offering food and habitat for monarchs and other pollinators.

Their time in Oklahoma may be brief, but it’s an important part of an incredible journey that happens every fall.

Have you ever noticed our goats and sheep spending time together?

While they're different species, they make great pasture companions. Our sheep prefer grazing on grasses, while our goats are more likely to browse leaves, vines and shrubs. Because they naturally favor different types of plants, they can share the same pasture while helping manage a wider variety of vegetation.

It's just one of the many ways our farm demonstrates how biodiversity helps support a healthy, balanced ecosystem.

Purple coneflowers are one of the hardest-working flowers at Mollie Spencer Farm. Native to Oklahoma, they provide nectar for bees and butterflies throughout the summer, and when the blooms fade, their seed heads become a food source for goldfinches and other birds.

As a pollinator destination, the farm is filled with plants like these that help support wildlife and create habitat all season long.
