🌻 The Sunflower Saga: Six Years of Failure and One Glorious Victory! 🌻
As many of you know, I have a love-hate relationship with sunflowers.
When I bought the farm six years ago, I envisioned beautiful fields of sunflowers. We had plenty of sunshine, so what could possibly go wrong? 😂
Year 1: Tilled and planted half an acre. A week later, the spring rains arrived and rotted every seed.
Year 2: Doubled the field. More tilling, more planting. Seeds sprouted about two inches, then promptly died.
Year 3: Determined to win this battle, I planted the BIG field again. The seeds grew! 🎉 Then an apparently organized gang of hungry deer wiped out my entire crop overnight.
Year 4: Tried the smaller field again. Epic failure.
Year 5: I refused to even look at a sunflower. Greeting cards, TV commercials, you name it. I was DONE. 🌻😡
Year 6: I swore I wouldn't waste another minute on those yellow little traitors. But then I wondered… could I have been planting them at the wrong time all along? 🤔
So, in August, with help from one of our volunteers, I planted a smaller different field that used to be part of the goat pasture.
AND THEY GREW! THEY'RE FLOWERING! 🌻🙌
Six years. Countless seeds and $$$. Hours of tilling. A deer vendetta. And apparently, all I had to do was plant them at a different time of year.
Moral of the story: Never give up on your dreams. Sometimes you just need to change your timing… and possibly outsmart a few deer. 😂💛
