We grow sudangrass for livestock feed, but this heat-loving crop has some added perks!

Sudangrass grows quickly and thrives in Arizona’s heat, making it a versatile crop that can be harvested multiple times throughout the growing season.

As it grows, sudangrass can help compete with weeds, and its extensive root system helps support healthy soil structure. And sometimes, instead of harvesting another cutting, the crop can be disked back into the soil, returning plant material and organic matter to the field.

We’re always looking for ways to make the most of every crop and every growing season.

AgTech was founded in 1976 by Kenny Evans, whose innovative work helped shape the beneficial reuse of biosolids in Arizona. Years later, he passed that knowledge on to the Magan family, who purchased AgTech more than a decade ago.

Today, we're still family-owned, still based in Yuma County, and still committed to protecting the land while supporting our community. Along with our subcontractors, we're proud to provide more than 100 full-time jobs right here in our backyard.

At AgTech, we use Class B biosolids as a soil amendment to grow livestock feed crops. This is the intended use for Class B biosolids and a practice that's widely used in agriculture across the country.

Every application is managed in accordance with state and federal regulations, including permit requirements and site management practices to support safe and responsible use.

The Yuma County South Transfer Station recently opened, now placing landfill facilities on both sides of the land AgTech farms.

Landfills naturally generate odors and attract flies as waste is received and decomposes. Depending on wind conditions, those odors and insects may also travel beyond the landfill itself.

While AgTech has been blamed for flies, Yuma County Vector Control testing has determined that flies are not originating from our fields. As our community grows and new facilities are added, it's important to base those conversations on facts. We remain committed to operating responsibly and sharing accurate, science-based information with our community.

While some farms grow fruits and vegetables, AgTech specializes in forage crops. Our fields produce alfalfa, sudangrass, barley and hay.

After harvest, these crops are sold to farmers and local brokers.

While Washington, D.C.'s program uses biosolids in parks, schools, gardens, and farms, AgTech uses them as a soil amendment to grow livestock feed—not produce for direct human consumption.

EPA regulations require a setback around irrigation wells, creating the light-colored "ring" visible in the center of our fields.

Outside of required setback, soil inputs are applied according to soil conditions, broker requirements, specific crops, time of year and government regulations. The darker, more uniform crop illustrates how responsible, science-based nutrient management helps support healthy, productive fields while protecting water resources.
