DJ'S Kids has been babysitting for a friend at Fiery Ginger Farm while she is on a short Christmas vacation. We have two of the cutest baby goats visiting while their Mom takes a short Christmas break. The babies were born unexpectedly five weeks ago and had to be bottle babies because they had a rough start. They are both little does, one white, Noodle, and one black with white tip tail and white star, Salem. They have been perfect guests but having a hard time convincing them they are baby goats because they have been so spoiled since entering this world. They have had several visitors while here but I'm sure they will be glad to get back home were they can be spoiled little pets.

We are looking for a very special home for a sweet doeling and her feisty brother. They are gold and white and the doeling has wattles. She was injured as a tiny baby which has caused her to have a permanent limp,. It happened one evening so I have no idea what the injury is but I'm sure she will limp for the rest of her life. She walks on it, jumps, and runs but will always have a sign of a limp. I want her to go as a special pet with the agreement that she won't ever be bred. They are coming on four months. If anyone knows someone that would be interested in this special little girl and her brother please let me know.

Last night one of our little wethers found a home with friends from years ago as a companion animal to the new doeling they bought. She needed a friend and they needed a friendly goat to help teach her they aren't going to kill her. We pride ourselves on dam raising friendly Nigerian Dwarf goats that make excellent pets and show prospects especially for children. We try not to price them so high that children can't get started in goats by causing their parents a heart attack over the price of a goat. There are lots of beautiful goats out there that I would be proud to own but not by breaking the bank of a parent with a child that deserves to get a break until they know the child is really interested. So many beautiful doelings from show breeders end up as pets because it didn't turn out to be what the child or parent expected. Most of the time it's too much work to care for and milk a doe to show. Raising, showing and teaching young people to love and care for goats has taken up 30 years of my life and I still love it. Age has taken its toll and I can't show anymore but it is fun to see your animals do well in the show ring with young enthusiastic children. They are the future of the industry. i

Hannah returned this week for a day of helping out around here. Even one day really helps with getting the work done. We did a total clean of three goat pens with her help. This time of year I try to get started on the total pen cleaning because it takes time and then we can keep it up until the rain arrives, which we are truly looking forward to this year. This is from a person who doesn't like the rain or mud.

We have been busy around here. Two of Midnight Sky's little doelings went home with their new owner in spite of me being laid up with a bruised knee and unable to go out to the barn for two weeks. Thank you Samantha for giving our little girls a loving home. On July 2nd Bryan came by to pick up Midnight Sky's two little wethers. He returned after two hours to buy a third one as a wedding gift for a friend. The two he took home were so friendly and fun that he wanted to give one to a friend that had two he purchased in Colusa County that weren't very friendly. He hoped our friendly little boy would help tame down the two his friend had. Thank you Bryan. We still have two little wethers left that are looking for a good home so if you know anyone looking for sweet friendly little Nigerian wethers please let us know.

we are proud to announce that DJ's Kids MM Oriental Lotus's doeling has found a new home in Placerville with a couple of nice young ladies that want to participate in the 4H program for dairy goats in El Dorado County. We wish them the best of luck and hope they keep in touch.

Time flies when you're having fun. I am on a mission to get this place ready for the fire season. I have been using the ;push mower and string trimmer to clean as mulch tall weeds as I can get to in all of the fields and around the houses and barns. Some fields have been harvested and some have been disk up but it still leaves a lot of dry grass and weeds around. I may wear out before the weeds but things will be a lot safer when I'm done. The goats have done a great job in their pens so ti's the least I can do. We will be giving the second vaccination to our first set of triplets on Monday and then the boys will be castrated and the three kids will be ready for new homes. Their dam was the 2019 Best Doe in Show at the Yolo County Fair. All three have beautiful blue eyes.
Two stacks of alfalfa sitting in the driveway waiting to be put in the barn. Have the squeeze coming next week to get that done. My brother ran out today to fix my big barn door so we could get it open for the squeeze. Every thing is going great around here as things continue to fall into place.

Warren came by yesterday and spent some time riding the tractor around our upper fields to disk up the foxtail and other noxious weeds that can create a fire problem this summer if left in the field. We have so many great friends that have stepped up in our old age to help so that we can continue to live in the country and raise a few goats. When you have lived in the country away from the world it's hard to even consider moving to town with the crowds and hustle and bustle. We have dealt really well with the Covid 19 isolation because we always have something to do and friends and family we can count on. Our first set of triplets will be old enough to leave home in three weeks.

Yesterday we had the chance to see what wonderful people there are in this world. With upcoming rain and our hay sitting out I started checking around trying to find someone to stack it in the barn before the Sunday rain. I contacted multiple people looking for a teenager that was willing to work for pay. Along the way I contacted the FFA Advisor from Esparto,, whose child had been in my 4H group. She responded quickly that her husband would be glad to come up and help us. Pete arrived about 4:30, with one of my favorite 4Her's to visit, and picked up and stacked our hay into the barn shed by 7. Maxine had the chance to see three newborn kittens in the stack of hay and move them to a dog crate that we left in place of the hay so the mom could collect her kittens and move them to a safe place. As you get older and can't always do the things you always have you really appreciate the people that are willing to give up a couple of hours of their time when you really need help. We don't want to be a burden to anyone so try to do as much as possible on our own. We have been fortunate to have met some really great people along the way.

We may be old but not useless. Today we got word our three way hay was arriving and knew we had to clean out the shed it is stored in. This year with the water shortage hay will be in short supply and very expensive so can't take a chance on any of it getting ruined. We moved the remaining 11 bales out of the storage shed and cleaned it out ready for the new hay. Thanks to a great guy part of it has arrived and is siting in the driveway ready to be put in. The rest should come before the day is over. It's not as much as I had ordered but certainly appreciated because there won't be much of it around. Our field which usual produces 175 to 200 bales had a total of 14. Counting our blessings and telling the goats to not be too fussy this year it's all there is.

Another one of those exciting nights around here. In the middle of the night Vienna kidded with a doe and buck by Castle Rock Irish Moon. Both babies are doing well and Vienna is a great mom. Need some sleep now,.

I know it's been a while since I posted but it has been a very busy time around here with ups and downs along the way. On March 26th Lotus gave birth to two bucks and one doe kid all with blue eyes. Of course, she picked 4 am and had to have assistance to get the job done but they are here and doing well. On March 30th Glory went into labor and it was a long night. Finally at 3;30 am she started delivering with me there to assist. We ended up with four kids DOA. Have no idea what caused the issue but know they didn't die because I wasn't there. Finally on April 5th after spending my 50th wedding anniversary and Easter worrying when she would go into later Sky delivered a set of quads
two does two bucks three have blue eyes with a normal kidding except for the 3:30 time slot again. I very seldom have a night kidding and all three of theses have kept me up all night. The new babies and Mom are doing well. All of this all night stuff isn't making me easy to get along with right now but the babies are fun to play with. More kids to come, hopefully at a more decent hour.
