Abby's Eggs In the Spring of 2013, thanks to a school project (Southern Nash High School), a group of baby chicks

03/07/2025

Hello everyone. I'm sure some of you are wondering where we are and what has happened with our eggs.

Well... As the days get shorter, chickens don't have enough sunlight to build up the energy needed to produce eggs. Also, this is the time of year that many of them molt, or replace their feathers and they focus their energy on that. And then of course there is the age factor. None of our ladies are spring chickens any more, so they no longer produce as regularly as they once did. And last but not least, our flock has dwindled down to not many layers, thanks to the circle of life.

So, our plan is to get some more chicks this year. That's the good news - for most, we hope. The bad news is that chicks don't start laying until they're around 4 - 5 months old. I know that with everything being as it is right now, it would be great if we had 3 - 4 dozen laying hens already laying. However, if the opportunity presents itself for me to get some ladies that are already laying, I will do so and let you all know. For now, stay safe and be kind. ❤️
