We are so excited to have “The Gradual Extinction of Softness” featured in Hippocampus Magazine’s newest anthology, Selected Memories Volume 2!

is very dear to us, and they played a huge role in the success of Slow Noodles. By 2021, we’d been trying for more than 3 years to find a publisher. The inbox was full of rejections. And then Hippocampus published an essay-excerpt of the MS. Longreads and other “best of” sites picked it up. And an editor at came calling. So we will for all time sing the praises of this lovely litmag. It punches well above its weight class and makes dreams come true.

See for yourself. Get the anthology. Pre-orders are open right now, so make sure to snag your copy! We are in there along with 30+ other incredible writers. Visit the profile to get that pro-order link.

PLUS - if you’re coming to this year, you can snag your pre-ordered copy at Hippocampus’ 15th Anniversary Party on Saturday 3/7! Happy birthday to them!!

Happy two-year anniversary to Slow Noodles! February 20, 2024 was a day we’ll never forget. We started the day live in the studio for a live broadcast of and ended the night at and a book launch party that surpassed our wildest dreams. It’s been an incredible experience to hear from readers and home cooks who embraced the book in countless different ways, all deeply personal — from Khmer Americans with shared histories to folks who knew little about what happened to Cambodians 50 years ago. Thank you all for reaching out and inviting us to continue the conversation. And massive gratitude to the friends and allies who gathered and supported us that week two years ago. 🇰🇭💙🤍❤️

What an honor to be included on a list with such illustrious authors!

"In 'Slow Noodles,' Chantha Nguon offers a moving testimony of survival where cuisine and catastrophe are inseparable...For readers drawn to food as both nourishment and historical witness, this is a powerful example of how the act of cooking can be an act of remembrance and reclamation." —Saskia Kemsley.
