This all started with a wild idea!

“I have dedicated my life to preserving and restoring the Great Plains grasslands. By returning the bison to their native homeland, we’re not only rewilding a threatened ecosystem, we are keeping prairies intact, with carbon stored safely underground, and producing the healthiest red meat on the planet.”
- Dan O’Brien, Founder.

We were founded to fulfill this mission and to offer an alternative to the industrialized food system.

The idea was simple: offer delicious, healthy, 100% grass-fed and finished buffalo meat to consumers interested in supporting a healthier planet and a sustainable food supply.

We were founded on this single idea.

To offer delicious, healthy, 100% grass-finished buffalo meat to consumers interested in supporting a healthier planet, while restoring the grasslands of the Great Plains.

And since 1997 that’s what we’ve been doing!

We encourage you to know where your meat comes from.

Earth Day isn’t something we celebrate once a year.

It’s something we practice daily.

The health of the land isn’t separate from the food we eat, it’s the same thing. They are inseparable.

Before the fire, before the table, before the meal, there is the land.

For over 30 years, we’ve built our ranch and partnered with others around one goal: restoring the prairie.

When we give to the land, it gives back.

Not all at once, but steadily, season after season.

Today, this Earth Day, we’re reminded of that exchange.

Our Mondays look different out here.

Locked in.
Ready to go.

Five men. One purpose.
No shortcuts. No spectators.

From shot to butchery, every Buffalo is handled on the prairie with precision, respect in life and dignity in death.

This isn’t a process, it’s a responsibility.

Work you feel in your bones.
Meat that proves it.

The bison, they don’t ease into it.
They go.

Full speed.
Dust up, wind in their wake.

It’s The Weekend.

Let it move you.

Not everything meaningful needs a name.

There is a kind of understanding that comes from being close to the land. A recognition that life is not separate. That it moves through everything.

Over time, that understanding has faded.

Life feeds life. Nothing is taken without consequence. When a life is taken, it is acknowledged.

There is a pause.

A quiet moment of recognition. A simple thank you for what has been given.

Not as ritual. As awareness.

That is where the weight comes from.

That is where the meaning lives.

Gratitude grounds the process.

It’s the thread that ties it all together.

There are easier ways to make money on the prairie.

For generations, people have been able to earn more by breaking the sod, planting crops, and pushing the land harder.

The financial return can be clear and immediate.

Regenerative ranching asks something different.

It asks patience. It asks restraint. It asks you to accept that the land sets limits, and that working within those limits rarely produces the largest check at the end of the year.

The payoff shows up in other ways.

Grasses returning where the soil once blew away. Insects moving through restored plant communities.

Birds appearing that haven’t been seen in years.

Moments like that remind you what the work is really building.

A living prairie.
Wildlife returning. An ecosystem finding its balance again.

Some rewards don’t arrive in envelopes.

They arrive on wings.

Freshness begins in life.

Our buffalo are prairie raised and prairie grazing their entire lives, moving across open grasslands and feeding on diverse native plants.

When the time for harvest comes, the process happens right there on the prairie.

Each buffalo is harvested on the grass and immediately processed in our mobile harvesting unit. The buffalo never leave the land they know. There is no transport to distant facilities, no long holding periods, no interruption to the calm rhythm of the herd.

That proximity matters.

Processing begins immediately, preserving the integrity of the meat and the life it came from. From prairie to processing in moments rather than hours or days.

It is a system built for respect, dignity, and quality.

Prairie Raised.
Prairie Grazing.
Prairie Harvested.

The result is bison meat as fresh as the prairie itself.

Taste a life well lived.

Buffalo raised on open prairie spend their days the way they were meant to.

Moving across grasslands, grazing diverse native plants, enduring weather, and living within the rhythms of the land that shaped them.

Prairie Raised. Prairie Grazing. Prairie Harvested.

From first breath to final moment, the buffalo remain part of the ecosystem that sustains them. Native grasses draw minerals from deep soils. The herd converts that wild forage into strength, resilience, and nourishment.

That life shows up in the meat.

Structure built through movement. Flavor shaped by grass, wind, and open country. Nutrient-dense grass-fed bison meat that reflects the land it comes from.

When the animal lives well, the food speaks for itself.
