Collaboration is how we build a stronger blue economy.

Over the weekend, we were delighted to host members of the Association of Women in Fisheries Kenya - A W F B E K at our processing plant as we shared experiences and explored opportunities to strengthen women led participation across the fisheries value chain.

Their commitment to empowering women in fisheries closely aligns with Rio Fish's mission of creating sustainable livelihoods through access, ownership, and opportunity.

Together, we can build a more inclusive and resilient future for aquaculture in Kenya.

Ownership is one of the most important ingredients in sustainable empowerment.

At Rio Fish, the women groups operating cages on our farm are not simply beneficiaries. They are farmers, entrepreneurs, and decision makers. Regular visits to their cages allow them to monitor growth, record key production indicators, assess fish health, and make informed management decisions.

From feeding schedules to performance tracking, every datapoint collected strengthens their ability to run profitable and sustainable aquaculture enterprises.

The future of fish farming in Kenya will be built by empowered women taking ownership of their success, and we are excited to be part of that journey.

Cleanliness is not just good practice. It is essential to delivering safe, high quality fish.

Every day, our depot teams clean and sanitize their freezers and workstations to maintain the highest standards of fish handling and cold chain management. A clean environment helps preserve freshness, protects product quality, and gives our customers confidence in every purchase.

It is the attention to these everyday details that helps us build a more sustainable and trusted fish value chain across Kenya.

Today is an exciting day at Rio Fish.

Our team is carrying out fish sampling and stock allocations for four of our partner groups: YISA, OSoi Aqua, Luor Ber, A Team, and Lakeside. These activities help monitor fish growth, inform management decisions, and ensure every group is well positioned for the next stage of production.

More importantly, days like today showcase what sustainable aquaculture is all about. By providing access to infrastructure, technical support, and practical knowledge, we are helping women and youth build thriving aquaculture enterprises that strengthen livelihoods and contribute to Kenya's growing blue economy.

We are proud to grow alongside these groups and excited for what lies ahead.

Healthy fish do not take weekends off, and neither do we.

Every day, including weekends, our team is on site ensuring our tilapia receive the nutrition they need to grow into healthy, high quality fish. Consistent feeding is one of the foundations of sustainable aquaculture, supporting fish health, efficient growth, and responsible resource use.

It is also an investment in people. Many of the young professionals caring for our cages are building valuable skills and livelihoods through hands on experience in aquaculture.

Partnerships like these are what make us excited about the future of aquaculture in Kenya.

OSoi Aqua, a women led fish farming group, operates cages at our farm as part of Rio Fish's commitment to expanding opportunities for women and youth in the blue economy. While we provide access to the infrastructure, the group manages the entire production cycle, from stocking fingerlings and feeding to daily fish husbandry.

Watching groups like OSoi Aqua grow their skills, confidence, and businesses reminds us that sustainable aquaculture is not just about fish. It is about creating ownership, livelihoods, and lasting economic opportunity.

No one is too senior to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. At Rio Fish, our managers, our CEO, and our entire team work side by side with the women who are at the heart of everything we do.

We believe in a hands-on approach that builds trust, shared value, and collective commitment. When everyone contributes, everyone succeeds.

The women we work with are not just beneficiaries, but our partners, our champions, and our most valuable asset. Together, we are building stronger livelihoods, resilient communities, and a more inclusive aquaculture sector.

All hands on deck. Always. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŸ

In aquaculture, growth does not happen by chance. It happens through consistency.

One of the most important daily activities on any fish farm is feeding. Regular feeding ensures fish receive the nutrition they need to grow, remain healthy, and efficiently convert feed into biomass.

At Rio Fish, feeding schedules are carefully planned and monitored. The right amount of feed, delivered at the right time, helps reduce waste, maintain water quality, and support strong growth rates throughout the production cycle.

Beyond the science, feeding time is also when our farm teams get a close look at the stock. Changes in feeding behavior can provide early insights into fish health, allowing farmers to respond quickly and make informed management decisions.

It is a simple process that takes place every day, but its impact is felt throughout the entire value chain. From healthy fingerlings to market ready fish, consistent feeding is one of the foundations of sustainable aquaculture.

The next time you enjoy a plate of tilapia, remember that months of careful feeding, observation, and dedication helped make that meal possible.

How do fish farmers know their stock is growing as expected?

The answer is sampling.

At our fingerling cages, regular sampling allows us to monitor growth rates, assess fish health, and make informed management decisions. During the process, a small number of fish are carefully collected, weighed, and measured before being safely returned to the cage.

These routine checks help us understand whether feeding programs are working effectively, track growth performance, and ensure the fish are developing as expected. The data collected also helps guide decisions on feeding rates, stocking density, and future production planning.

While it may seem like a small activity, sampling is one of the most important tools in modern aquaculture. Good decisions come from good information, and good information comes from consistent monitoring.

Every healthy harvest begins months earlier with activities like these: careful observation, accurate record keeping, and a commitment to understanding what is happening beneath the water's surface.

What do you think a fish farmer can learn from weighing just a few fish? ๐ŸŸ
