Directly from Senior Estate Winemaker, Phill’s, camera roll: it’s officially bud break season 🌱
Budbreak arrives less like a single moment and more like a quiet negotiation between vine and season — a fragile truce after winter’s austerity.
For much of the dormant period, our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines sit in apparent stillness, their canes rigid against the winter winds off Lake Ontario, storing the energy of the previous year like a held breath.
Then, throughout May, the vineyard begins to stir.
This season, budbreak arrived later than usual. Timing varied across our sites, with the Estate vineyard trailing behind our Claystone and Le Clos Jordanne vineyards.
A reminder that great wines are not made on a schedule, but in partnership with the season.
