Marylyn’s Howling Wolf Farm Market is in Jeopardy
Were you aware that there’s a process in place by Islands Trust’s Bylaw Compliance to shut down Marylyn’s shop, the Summer Market and remove the nice new dock and decking in front of Howling Wolf Farm Market? This is, of course, complaint-driven as Islands Trust doesn’t do these things unless someone makes a complaint to them. Naturally, the complainant is hiding behind anonymity. Many visitors and Thetis residents are customers of the shop and the Summer Market, and the decking is a pleasant place for the public to enjoy the beauty of Telegraph Harbour.
The Peggs have sought and received the proper permissions for the various constructions (which are displayed on the front door of the market). Although this small triangle of land owned by the Peggs is zoned residential, it is leased to the farm. Marylyn’s Howling Wolf Farm Market has been an important part of Thetis life since 2006 and it would be a blow to the community to lose it.
This will be discussed at the next Islands Trust electronic meeting, which will be held on February 3rd. Islands Trust meetings are open to the public, so if you are interested in finding out what is going on and would like to watch or take part in the Zoom meeting, here is a link:

Something to take away from this - if a complaint to Islands Trust can result in harm to well-respected islanders, we are none of us immune.
