Think it’s going to be an expensive day…😳🐱

UPDATE: Thankfully, nothing major (so far) just one sore Nala leg. Vet reckons she has twinged it on her old injury where she broke it as a kitten. So sent home with painkillers and cat treats for rest and recovery ❤️❤️

Then and now..the great flood of 2015

Well, not so much “the great flood” but this day 11 years ago we had had so much rain, the Totara River burst its banks and came over the road, closing the bridge and several hundred metres of road.

We were living in the house next door to where we are now, so were luckily on our side of the river, but many weren’t so lucky and had to hunker down for the night until it came back down.

There must have been a fair amount of water coming down from the mountains! We haven’t seen it do the same since we moved back 4 years ago.

The “rage baking” in the weekend has been so warmly received this week, the muffins that were meant for the freezer only made it as far as the work lunch boxes.🤣

Two types of “Muffins in a Whizz”
1. Orange muffins - tangy, sweet and sticky
2. Pear, cinnamon and walnut - total experiment but oh so good!

What I love about this recipe is that it is all done in the food processor so takes about 15mins all up, and that you can use any kind of fruit you have left over in the fruit bowl - perfect for using up the soft fruit no one wants!

Should I post the recipe?

Mediterranean style stuffed cabbage leaves.

When the cost of living, freight into a remote part of the country and out of season prices means you have to pivot on ingredients. The plan was to do stuffed peppers but at five dollars each per pepper and an in season cabbage in the fridge, a quick substitute was needed.

Turned out ok for a first attempt - the usual savoury mince ingredients with an Italian spin on them, rolled up into cabbage leaves that I have lunched the day before to make them soft, then spread Italian tomatoes over the top and bake them in the oven to cook through. Delicious and filling and got the seal of approval from the hubby..

Have you made something similar?

When you can’t even have a bath in peace!! 🤣🤣

The internal conflict within this ninja - half fascination, half hell naw! I can’t figure out what Alfie thought of the bath.🤣🤣🤣

Sound familiar? 🤣🤣

Calling all savvy sourdough aficionados- you’ve sucked me in finally!😝

The wafting smell of freshly baked bread might have just converted me into the world of sourdough.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone with all the sourdough gear but no idea?

(Not my photo, but what I aspire to)

How good does this focaccia look?

(Well apart from the slightly toasted bits 🤣) I used some of the harvest from the garden for a bit of culinary creativity - go me! 🤣

Do you get a bit creative with your bread making?

Like a moth to a flame…or maybe it is just the collective orange cat brain cell that got Alfie wondering what the flickering thing was.

Luckily that one brain cell hung around long enough for him to realise that paws or whiskers don’t mix or match with it!

Have you ever had a cat have a near miss?
