Did you know? In September 1940, the United States instituted its very first peacetime draft in history. Long before the country formally entered WWII, the Selective Training and Service Act called up hundreds of thousands of citizens from rural towns across Alabama and Georgia to prepare for an uncertain future. They didn't wait for a crisis to begin training; they built their readiness in advance.

"In 1781 Deborah Sampson joined the Continental Army under the name Robert Shurtliff since women were not allowed to serve in the military.

136 years later, Loretta Walsh made history as the first enlisted woman of any service when she enlisted as Chief Yeoman in the Naval Reserve Force.

Today, woman make up nearly 20% of service members.

Happy Women Veterans Day to all, but especially to the women (past and present) of our military.

During the intense draft calls of World War II, rural communities across and faced an immediate shortage of agricultural .

With thousands of young men called to the front lines, the responsibility of keeping the nation's supply stable fell entirely on the families left behind. Spouses, parents, and children were essentially "drafted" into dawn-to-dusk farm labor.

Service has always demanded resilience from the entire family unit. At Tender Love and Care Outreach and Tender Love & Care Veterans Outreach & Farm , we know that the journey home is a shared one.

Boots on the Ground. Heroes on the Field: Freedom Field Day on July 11th, 2026, is built for the whole family. We invite our and agricultural families from both sides of the state line to join us in Salem to celebrate the enduring strength of the home front.
