A combination of quality genetics/bloodline, adequate/purposeful nutrition, and good/consistent daily management is critical to the growth, well-being, performance, and body condition of the animals.

Just like human beings, livestock requires different feeds & or supplements for different purposes (there's no one size fits all approach or feeding that covers all the requirements).

Most of us get excited by the idea of reaching the desired destination or promised land, but very few of us are prepared/willing to handle/withstand the hardships & required sacrifices along the journey.

It was an honour to host the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort Campus) Faculty of Veterinary Science students at our farm for two consecutive days.

Our good daily management, record keeping, adequate nutrition, and ability to adapt to changes when the need arises made us their place of choice.

We are not our best intentions. We are what we do.

Our 3 breeding Rams (Platinum, Dexter & Big Ben) are taking off their worksuits and getting a well-deserved break after the latest breeding season (34 days). They are going on a 4 months leave while we are awaiting the results of their work. They rest 297 days in a calendar year and only work 68 days (nice life problems)... Each Ram is strategically allocated his own ewes during the breeding season, and pairing records are kept to ensure that the quality of our genetics is not compromised along the journey.

Livestock breeding comes with valuable lessons that money can't buy (experience is the best teacher).

The Bosvelder is a cross between the Bapedi, White Dorper and Van Rooy breeds, aiming to combine the best traits of these three indigenous breeds in a low-input, fat-tail field sheep suitable for the Bushveld with its heartwater challenges.

Breeding is focused on hardiness, fertility, early sexual maturity, good milk production, heavy weaning lambs and parasite & disease resistance.
