DRIVING EFFICIENCY THROUGH PACKAGING EXCELLENCE

As Packaging Manager at Produce Hub, Agnes Setshedi plays a vital role in ensuring that quality packaging is always available to support efficient production, protect product quality and keep deliveries moving on time.

Agnes has been leading the department for 12 months, managing packaging availability, supplier coordination and inventory planning, while ensuring timely deliveries that support daily production requirements and staging clients.

Since stepping into the role, Agnes has made a measurable impact by reducing packaging inventory value by 40% within six months, while successfully passing the BRC audit with zero non conformances from the packaging department. Her focus on structure, accountability and team alignment has strengthened efficiency across operations and empowered team members to take greater ownership within their roles.

With previous FMCG experience in quality and compliance, Agnes understands the importance of urgency, communication and reliability in a fast moving environment. She works closely with production and dispatch teams to minimise delays, reduce waste and ensure packaging quality consistently meets food safety standards.

Agnes believes strong teamwork, fairness and continuous development are key to building a productive culture. Her commitment to reliability and integrity continues to strengthen the operational foundation that supports Produce Hub’s growers, partners and customers every day.

MAY IN SEASON: BRINJALS

As we move deeper into autumn, brinjal supply starts to move to areas that are warmer in the autumn and winter months. Our growers’ first plantings are now seeing volumes stabilising, with consistent skin colour, firm texture and good internal quality.

At Produce Hub, consistency begins with how we source and handle every product. Through strong grower partnerships, coordinated harvesting and efficient packhouse processes, we ensure dependable volumes reach retailers and wholesalers across South Africa in optimal condition.

Our strategic growers ensure that supply from now until late spring 2026 remains steady. Brinjals are a small line relative to the bigger vegetable commodity groups, but they provide consumers and retailers with a versatile and often sought-after vegetable in the retail space. Brinjals play an important role in adding variety and choice to the fresh produce range, supporting basket diversity across retail, wholesale and food service.

Our growers continue to produce this attractive commodity with great care and dedication, and we ensure through careful logistics and planning that retailers and customers receive a product that meets expectations every time.

BUILDING THE FUTURE OF LOGISTICS THROUGH THE PRODUCE HUB LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMME

Charian Von Benecke joined the Produce Hub learnership programme with one clear goal: to build a strong foundation in Logistics and understand how products move through the supply chain. Starting from the ground up, she embraced the opportunity to learn every step of the process and lay the base for her future career.

Without prior industry experience, Charian approached the course with commitment and consistency. Through a balance of theory and practical training, she gained hands on experience, developed confidence and discovered a passion for Logistics and Distribution.

From compiling operational schedules to planning loading times and deliveries, she now applies her learning directly in her role. One of her biggest realisations: understanding how every department connects and how one decision impacts the entire supply chain. That perspective changed the way she sees the industry and its role in the broader economy.

Balancing work and studies was a challenge, but with structured support from the learnership team and a willingness to ask questions, she developed strong time management skills and resilience. She describes her journey in one word: Dynamic. Every day brought new challenges, new lessons and meaningful growth.

At Produce Hub, we are committed to developing talent from within, equipping our teams with the skills, confidence and practical understanding needed to strengthen our operations and support our growers and customers.

APRIL IN SEASON: ORANGES

As we move deeper into autumn, oranges take centre stage across the local citrus category. Early Navel oranges are gaining momentum in key production regions, bringing strong rind colour, balanced Brix to acid ratios and excellent juice content to market.

At Produce Hub, consistent quality starts with strategic regional sourcing and disciplined ex*****on across the supply chain. Through close partnerships with our growers, coordinated harvesting and efficient packhouse processes, we ensure dependable volumes reach retailers and wholesalers across South Africa in optimal condition.

As the season progresses, Valencia oranges will follow, supporting sustained supply into the winter months. Early indicators point to promising volumes, strong size profiles and solid internal quality, positioning the 2026 season on a strong footing.

Oranges remain a foundational category driver, supporting basket spend and steady turnover across retail, wholesale and food service channels. With strict cold chain management and a clear focus on reducing shrink and protecting margin, we remain committed to strengthening the local citrus category in the months ahead.
