This past Sunday, members of our team headed to the Benoni Northerns Athletics Club (BNAC) Marathon to join the community on the road. It was a great morning of activity and team spirit outside of the office.

We are proud of the whole group for their fantastic effort. Wendy and Laetitia successfully completed the 5km event, while Lionel, Lebo and Beryl got the full 10km behind them.

Despite the early start, the team enjoyed the energy of the crowd and the chance to represent Allmech together. Well done to everyone involved for crossing the finish line and for a successful morning in Benoni.

Allmech was recently featured in Engineering & Mining Africa Magazine for a project involving a medical supply customer. The client required an urgent and uninterrupted supply of softened water for their sterilisation processes.

Our technical team delivered a solution within two days by utilising a Runxin 3-way L-type ceramic ball valve to manage two softener vessels in a continuous-duty configuration. This innovative approach ensured a constant supply of treated water without the downtime usually required during regeneration.

The use of ceramic ball valve technology provided the necessary wear resistance and a leak-proof seal for this critical medical application. This project highlights our ability to provide engineered solutions quickly by using the versatile Runxin components we maintain in our local Johannesburg stock.

Selecting the right control valve requires finding the perfect balance between necessary functionality and cost-effectiveness.

Allmech now stocks the Runxin P and Q series to provide our customers with dependable, streamlined options for filtration and softening.

Why consider the P and Q series?

💧 Proven Reliability: These valves include 2–10m³/h filter and softener models designed for consistent performance.

💧 Intuitive Operation: The Q series features an optimized circuit board and front cover for a simple, user-friendly interface.

💧 Specialised Options: Models such as the F116Q and F117Q allow for the choice of a hard water bypass or no hard water bypass, depending on your system requirements.

These control valves maintain all the essential basic functions while offering a more economical design for both domestic and light commercial water treatment.

As the sole authorized South African agent for Runxin, Allmech has the technical expertise and the local stock to help you choose the correct valve for your project.

The Real Cost of Undersizing Your Water Treatment System

Choosing a water treatment plant based solely on the lowest initial capital cost often leads to significant operational expenses later on.

When systems are undersized or poorly specified, the result is almost always equipment failure, increased downtime and costly production delays.

Proper system design requires a detailed analysis of the specific water quality on site. This data-driven approach ensures that the equipment can handle the required flow rates without putting undue stress on the components. For example, in electrode boilers, correct sizing of the softener is vital to prevent the build-up of calcium scale, which acts as an insulator and thus increases your costs.

Clients who invest in correctly specified systems often see decades of reliable service. We have customers who have followed our technical recommendations for over 15 years and have required only minimal specialised maintenance during that time.

Our Managing Director, Lionel Maasdorp, recently discussed these technical risks and the importance of data-driven sizing in a feature for MechChem Africa.

If you missed the article, you can find the full technical breakdown on page 35 of the November-December issue.

Allmech provides the technical design, the specialised chemicals and the ongoing support to ensure your plant operates at peak efficiency for its entire life cycle.

At Allmech, we believe that a world-class boiler or water treatment system is only as good as the technical support standing behind it.

To get 2026 started, we'd like to introduce three new team members who are helping us broaden our reach and deepen our expertise across South Africa.

📍 In KwaZulu-Natal: Craig Smit is our new KZN Branch Manager. He brings a wealth of leadership experience to our Pinetown office, ensuring our coastal clients receive the expert service Allmech is known for.

📍 In Johannesburg: We are also joined by our two newest Junior Technicians, Sean van Wyk and Nathi Mthombeni. Both Sean and Nathi have hit the ground running, providing vital support across both our Boiler and Water Treatment divisions.

Our growing team is here to provide the knowledgeable, reliable results our clients depend on.

Welcome to the team, Craig, Sean, and Nathi! We look forward to a productive year ahead.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Alan Cunningham, founder of Allmech.

Alan established Allmech in 1995 from a small home office, driven by his passion and expertise in the boiler industry and an unwavering commitment to prioritising quality and service.

From selling electrode boilers to designing and building his own range, Alan’s entrepreneurial vision laid the foundation for what Allmech has become today.

Under his leadership, Allmech expanded its footprint across South Africa, growing from one man’s dedication to a company with branches in multiple regions. His curiosity and commitment to innovation saw him travel to China to secure agency rights for Runxin valves - a decision that would further shape Allmech’s reputation for reliability and innovation.

Alan’s hands-on approach, technical insight, and care for his team will be remembered by all who knew and worked with him.

The Allmech team is grateful to Alan for the legacy he built, the values he instilled, and the countless lessons he shared along the way. His impact continues to guide how we work, serve our clients, and grow together.

Our deepest condolences go to the Cunningham family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Alan’s legacy lives on in the work we do every day.

From valve demos to boerewors rolls, our KZN Branch was the place to be.

Our team had a great turnout for their recent open day!

Clients from across industries joined us to explore our full offering of Runxin and Runjing valves. Clients were able to ask questions and connect with one another.

Joseph from Allmech was manning the braai, but when he went AWOL (as these things happen 😅), our client Gareth from Grego jumped in to help.

A big thank you to everyone who made the day a success!

In true South African spirit, we know that braais and knowledge-sharing both bring people together.

Missed this one? No worries, our JHB and KZN teams host open days regularly.

Contact us to find out when the next one is happening!
