HERITAGE DAY / BRAAI DAY AT THE KITCHEN DOOR

Thursday, 24 September

Heritage Day means one thing round here: Chef Tabish, Jen and the team firing up the braai and opening the doors for a proper celebration. We’ve turned today’s photos into a bit of a game while we’re at it.

There are some things that are simply part of being South African. A braai is one of them. There are plenty of others, and we’ve hidden six of them somewhere across this carousel. Find all six and send us a DM with the list - you could win Braai Day lunch for you and three friends, on us.

Entries close Tuesday, 22 September at 12pm. Winner announced in our Stories on Wednesday, 23 September.

On the menu for 24 September:
R295pp gets you a shisanyama-style Karoo lamb chop, a peri-lemon buttermilk chicken sosatie, crispy pap balls with chakalaka, your pick of eight sides(think delicious potato salad and charred corn coleslaw), and a wood-fired malva pudding to finish. (Add Chef Tabish’s home-brewed ginger umqombothi for R25!)

Full menu and bookings via The Kitchen Door’s Dineplan, link in bio.

Happy Spring Day, and Happy Cap Classique Day! Today’s agenda: bubbles, sunshine, and a toast to our favourite little madame :)

We love MCC so much that we started making some for ourselves in 2010, and named it after our little poodle, Lucy - a small project, just for fun. She has since grown her fan club, and we now produce just enough to share with the wider public.

The next vintage is being labelled as we speak. Our 2023 will be released soon - if you’d like to be first in line, send us a DM with your email and we’ll make sure you don’t miss it.

Cheers to spring, and to Lucy.

This July was one of the driest we’ve seen in 20 years, and not every cover crop pulled through the way we’d hoped. But where it counted, nature came through, the vetch is up in full purple bloom, and the yellow mustard is putting on a proper show across the rows.

Between the dry spell and bud break tracking a couple of weeks earlier than usual this season, the team’s racing to finish pruning in time. Busy days in the vineyard.

This is exactly the experience we love creating. Thank you for the kind words, Ethan!

She can do it all, literally!

From managing our warehouse to running our guesthouse, Lize-Marie wears more hats than most, and wears them well. But ask anyone on the team and they’ll tell you it’s her heart that really sets her apart, always thinking of others.

This month’s Unsung Hero is someone we simply couldn’t do without!

Slow, misty mornings, a warm kitchen, a cup of coffee and a book. The kind of quiet you can only find at The Farm House.

Come stay a while — bookings open now.

Oxalis duriuscula is a small, endangered flower that grows in this corner of the Overberg and nowhere else. It holds on where most things give up. We named our most premium wine after it, and every time I see the label, I think of the women who do the same for this farm.

One year of The Kitchen Door!

We’re celebrating a whole year of deliciousness and having Chef Jen and her amazing team as part of the Gabriëlskloof family.

Thank you for creating more memorable meals, more spectacular events, and, generally, all-round goodness than we could ever count.

The koppie is a better place with you on it!

Spend the day tasting your way through the Gabriëlskloof range, then pull up a chair at The Kitchen Door, marking a full year of service this same weekend. (🍾🥂!)
