I’ve been dreaming about coming to Asoka since I was in high school, just up the road. Back then, the idea of having a tree growing right in the centre of a restaurant felt like the most magical concept I could imagine.

Years later, I finally found myself sitting beneath that very tree — and somehow, the reality was even more beautiful than the dream.

I was completely spoilt with this dinner. Perhaps I’m biased, because the person who brought me here came into my life to create a shift of their own.

The food was exceptional. Every bite was shared, devoured and adored. The service was attentive without ever being intrusive, and the atmosphere… oh, the atmosphere.

The lighting, the energy, the front-row seat to the street and, of course, that magnificent tree - it all came together in a way I could never have imagined as that high-school girl dreaming about this place.

The dream didn’t just come true.
It was exceeded.

Every foodie should make their way to this extraordinary space.

Oh my goodness… beetroot & ginger juice and French toast two ways - what a way to kick off the day!

I loved every single bite. The apricot and yuzu combination was an absolute game changer - bright, fresh and beautifully balanced.

Add warm, friendly service and an ambience that feels both bright and calming, and you have the kind of breakfast experience that makes you want to linger a little longer.

For those who know me at all, you’ll know I wear my emotions on my sleeve - and wine has a way of bringing out the very best kind of tears: tears of joy and appreciation in my already sparkling eyes.

This moment was incredibly precious.

This Generation Z from De Toorn simply confirmed my passion for quality wine - the kind that reminds you why wine is so much more than what’s in the glass.

It is nature and winemaking coming together to sing a song written over generations. Hours upon hours of tending, blending, refining and creating, until everything comes together in that one beautiful moment of perfection.

And sometimes, you taste it… and you feel it.

The Viljoens introduced me to the beauty of wine at least six years ago, and I think that makes moments like this even more special.

On a visit to Gauteng earlier this year, I was invited to a family dinner - and with it came a beautiful tradition: opening a Kruger Family wine for a proper family kuier.

The wine was exceptional, but so was everything around it. A generous braai buffet of pork ribs, chicken skewers and pepper-crusted beef fillet - the kind of food that belongs around a table filled with family, laughter and good conversation.

A perfect way to celebrate family, great food and exceptionally curated wine.

Some wine memories start with a bottle. Others become part of the family story.

Cafe Ambrosia, tucked away in the Heckers Garden Centre, has exactly the kind of setting that calls for a lazy Sunday brunch. Those thatched umbrella tables practically invite you to sit down, slow down, and stay awhile.

The service was mediocre and the menu could definitely do with a good proofread - BUT the food? Oh my soul.

I had the spinach and feta quiche and it absolutely blew me away. A beautifully crisp, delicious crust with a filling that was creamy, generous and packed with flavour.

I literally licked the plate clean. Not a crumb left unturned.

Sometimes the food just wins the day.

Who knew Boksburg was serving international travel by the glass - ok, by bottle.

One sip and you're wandering through Portuguese vineyards, the next you're soaking up Argentinian sunshine. Not bad for a random evening.

The best adventures often lead to the most beautiful surprises.

This hidden gem delivered on every level - exceptional service, incredible food, and a setting that felt like stepping into a secret garden. The greenery wrapped around us, colourful umbrellas floated overhead, and for a moment, the world seemed to slow down.

So peaceful. So charming. So perfectly unexpected.

Proof that there is always something beautiful waiting to be discovered.

The setting?

234 metres above the city, with the City of Gold stretched out beneath us and the sun slowly waving goodbye over the horizon - just a few precious seconds longer than for those moving through the streets below.

A glass of Moët to start. Then a glass of Kanonkop Cape Blend, perfectly paired with a wagyu beef slider and pork belly bao.

The view was spectacular, the food exceptional, and the wine exactly where it belonged.

Some evenings don't ask for anything more.
