Golden rule # 1: Nous carbs after 15.00 and now sugar.
Point. Blank.
Good carbs (what you find in natural food) is important for your brain and is your energy fuel. You need them in the morning and at lunch. YOU DO NOT NEED ENERGY AT NIGHT!
When you eat carbs past 15.00, you won't have time to burn them, your body will store it. That's how you gain weight: too much energy and too little time to burn it.
NO SUGAR: natural foods contain all the glucose (energy) the body needs (nuts, fruits, etc) Anything with refined sugars is USELESS! It will only spike your blood sugar level, make you crash shortly after and you'll have the feeling you need another dose to function properly.
Remember sugar works on the addiction part of the brain, like any other drug....
Have sugar once a week max as a treat.

Golden rule # 2: EVERY processed foods contains sugars! That's it. And other tons of toxic additives because:
1. Sugar is how they make you crave more
2. Additives is how they increase shelf life (ever wondered how "fresh" industrial food can last a full week without rotting? It can't. That's why the food industry needs additives to stabilize the ingredients)
STOP eating processed foods. Cook. You don't have to be a gourmet chef to cook Meat, veggies and carbs. You can do this πŸ˜‰
Cut out processed foods from your diet for two weeks and see what happens!

Golden rule #3: Your body needs energy to function throughout the day. That's what food is for. Give it energy in the morning (good carbs, proteins, fibers, vitamins and minerals), less at lunch and almost none in the evening.
Your body DOES NOT need fuel before you go to bed, you won't burn that energy as you are not active.
Weight loss IS NOT complicated, whatever fancy apps and expensive products want you to believe, follow simple "back 2 basics" rules and you'll get there is no time πŸ’ͺ🏻

15 minutes super easy preparation family dinner, R380 for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) 😎:
Simply put your pieces of hake 🐟 in foil, pour some πŸ«’ olive oil, cut veggies (here I put baby marrows, cherry tomatoes πŸ…, and carrots πŸ₯•), a little bit of thym, lemon πŸ‹, salt and pepper, close the foil and cook in the oven for about 15min/20min.
While your fish is cooking, boil pearl barley, mix with pesto (there are some very good ready made pesto out there πŸ˜‹) and mix with green πŸ’š beans.
Serve and voilΓ  πŸŽ‰
Fish is protein, barley and green beans together also form a complete protein, veggies are full of fibers, vitamins and minerals = You get a full healthy dinner, low cost and it's beautiful 😍

I'm also a working mom so I fully understand the hassle of evening cooking πŸ˜… and I don't do super fancy pics so that you can see it's really home made ❀️

If you tell yourself "I can't" your brain will automatically find you excuses to why you could and will resist the interdiction, just like a naughty child πŸ˜‰
"Not wanting to" is completely different: It is YOUR decision, your brain will respect that 😎
"I can't have that cheesecake" automatically makes you sad, "I don't want that cheesecake" empowers you to make your own decisions.
Impressive how phrasing things in two different ways can have such a great impact no?

One small action at a time πŸ’ͺ🏻 Forget about turning your entire life around, it's demotivating and impossible πŸ˜… If you change small things, every day, at the end it will all count ✨️ Start drinking 2l of water today, tomorrow do a sugar free day, walk 10 minutes after your meal, whatever small thing you choose to do differently every day will all add up in the end 😊

Why?
➑️ Industrial juices are treated for long lasting shelf life, it's impossible to have any substantial dose of vitamins in them, it's a concentrate of fructose (the sugar in fruits) that rushes through your body and spikes your blood sugar level πŸ™ˆ That or a can of soda it's the exact same effect on your body (and can you imagine on your kid's body 🫣)
➑️ Fresh juices are a double problem: 1. You extract only the juice out of the fruit, leaving out all the fibers and minerals. 2. You need to have more than your 2 daily fruits to make a whole glass πŸ₯› so you are doubling or tripling the amount of daily sugar you are needing per day (same for smoothies)
βœ…οΈ Eat a real banana 🍌 a real apple 🍎 you will get all the benefits of the fruit and the action of chewing will help your body assimilate 🀩
βœ…οΈ 2 fruits max per day if you are trying to lose weight, 4 fruits max per day for the others 😎

The amount of proteins is not bad at all, and the sugar ratio is totally acceptable. The taste is really nice and there are not too many unhealthy ingredients πŸ˜‰
Don't get me wrong: I would most definitely not eat one per day but I am very happy to slip one in my bag when I have long working days or travelling in case I feel like a snack 😎
I find them at Checkers, Sportman's warehouse, and Wellness Warehouse.
They are not cheap (between R37 and R45/bar), but good snacks are generally not πŸ˜…

"I deserve it, I had a tough day", "That won't make a difference", "It's Saturday", "I'll start tomorrow", "It's just an exception" We can get sooooooo creative when it comes to finding excuses πŸ˜‚
But you know me, I am 100% honest with you ❀️: You are only lying to yourself...
So for 2025, just be honest with yourself, and ask yourself: Are you really giving yourself a chance for a healthy body?
