A Bit of Reflection
Eikendal Hive Market……..
I’ve been trading at the Market for one year, a mere “toddler” compared to some of the other traders there. When I ask some of them, how long they’ve been trading, some of them get a bemused look on their faces, some almost fourty years. These are traders who have been diligently trading every weekend, barring illness, lockdown or a family emergency or bad weather. I have learnt so much whilst trading there as well as seen items that I didn’t even know existed. Met so many interesting traders as well customers from all walks of life. There exists a camaraderie amongst the traders, and even though some of the stalls look as if they selling the same items, they not , each and every stall has its own speciality and personality . I enjoy “walking” the market, so much to see and learn. Our customers are dwindling, our sales are dwindling, it’s becoming harder to remain positive, but that’s due to the current economic conditions worldwide and the ever increasing number of markets that are popping up. I believe that we still offer an amazing assortment of stalls and items, and customers still enjoy the experience when they visit . I remain grateful and thankful for our customers as well as the traders who continue to trade under extemely difficult trading conditions, the weather has also been playing a role .I believe that we contribute positively to the economy and the environment, most of the stalls sell pre loved items that would have landed on the landfill otherwise, thereby extending its lifespan, and we have “helpers” who would otherwise remain unemployed. We are lightening our carbon footprint.
Thank you Eikendal Hive Market Customers and Traders for you continued support.
