Some business milestones feel a little more special than others. This one feels like one of those full-circle moment. ❤️

We’re incredibly excited to share that Rush Nutrition has acquired Superbar, the proudly South African, vegan, high-protein bar brand founded by Christo Smeda and Regardt Botes.

And for us, this isn’t simply the acquisition of another brand.

We first helped Christo and Regardt launch Superbar many moons ago when we ourselves were taking our first tentative steps into the world. We then found ourselves manufacturing and distributing the bars when the brand’s other manufacturing partners were absorbed into In2Foods.

And now, years later, we’ve come full circle- with Rush taking the brand forward into its next chapter.

There is something pretty special about that journey.

We have walked alongside these two guys through the very real ups and downs of building niche food brands in South Africa- the retailer negotiations, manufacturing challenges, cash-flow pressures, small wins, big setbacks and all the uncertainty that comes with trying to build something you believe in.

But what has always stood out to us is how closely our WHY and philosophy around nutrition align.

Real food. Purposeful nutrition. Products that serve a genuine need. And a belief that better-for-you food doesn’t have to compromise on taste or enjoyment.

But perhaps most importantly, Christo and Regardt are just really good guys.

We have loved journeying with them, and we are incredibly grateful for the trust they have placed in us to take something they created and cared deeply about into its next chapter.

A full-circle moment...

Years ago we received a call from Checkers’ Head of Special Projects (who, interestingly, had previously been our buyer at Wellness Warehouse- a reminder that the food industry is much smaller than you think!).

They were launching an exciting healthy eating brand for children in collaboration with an internationally renowned chef and, because Rush Nutrition was the only company in South Africa producing genuinely healthy snack bars for kids at the time, they invited us to pitch.

We were incredibly excited!

We developed eight different product concepts, poured our hearts into the submission and waited...and waited.

After following up a few times, we eventually received an email saying we hadn’t been selected. The project would instead follow an “existing supplier” strategy.

It was SUPER disappointing, especially having been invited to pitch in the first place. But “that’s business” we told ourselves (Although we can assure you there was a little more colourful language involved at the time! 😂)

Fast forward to today...
Walking into Checkers and seeing our own Rush Nutrition Kids range sitting proudly on their shelves, complete with a “TRY ME – I’M NEW” sign, felt like a far bigger milestone because of that earlier experience.

It reminded us that entrepreneurship isn’t a straight line.
You’ll hear “no” far more often than you’ll hear “yes.”
You’ll invest time, heart and so much energy into opportunities that don’t materialise.
You’ll wonder whether you’re good enough.
You’ll vloek “existing supplier” strategies wondering whether anyone will ever make you one.

But if you keep showing up, keep believing, keep improving, keep innovating; yesterday’s ‘no’ can become today’s ‘maybe’ which can become tomorrow’s ‘YES!’.

Small businesses are fuelling so much of the innovation happening in South Africa. We don’t always have the biggest budgets or the longest track records, but we often have the courage (or perhaps the desperation! 😂) to try something new.

So, if you’re building something and you’ve just heard “no”...
Keep going.
Because sometimes the “yes” is behind todays ‘maybe’ baby!

The seeds you plant take years to grow.

Back in 2021, we began building a relationship with Kibsons International LLC. We worked through their processes, updated our packaging to comply with UAE food labelling requirements, submitted everything, got approval... and then heard- nothing, nudda, ziltch!

We followed up from time to time, knowing that these things often move at their own pace, and got on with building the business.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere this year, the call came.

It’s a go. And it’s happening yesterday!

This shipment marks the beginning of Rush Nutrition landing on the shelves of one of the Middle East’s leading online fresh food retailers, and it’s a reminder that not every opportunity happens on your timeline. Sometimes the work you do quietly behind the scenes only bears fruit years later.

It also reminds us that being ready matters. Opportunities have a funny way of arriving when you’ve forgotten about them.

Seeing our products packed and ready to head from Cape Town to Dubai is genuinely humbling. We still have moments where we pinch ourselves.

When we started Rush Nutrition, the dream wasn’t simply to build another snack company. It was to showcase the incredible nutritional power of African-grown ingredients, superfoods and botanicals and to play a small part in improving health through real food.

Today feels like another small step towards that dream.

A huge thank you to the Kibsons team for believing in our brand, to our rockstar team for batting way above their average and to everyone who has supported Rush Nutrition along the journey.

We’ve somehow turned health into a full-time job.

Devices tracking every biomarker. Protocols for every cellular process. Supplements for gaps you didn’t know you had. Endless advice telling us there’s always one more thing to optimise.

But somewhere along the way, we’ve confused complexity with health.

When you strip it back, the foundations of a long, healthy life aren’t revolutionary:

🌿 Real food and drink, rich in plants and minimally processed.
😴 Quality sleep.
🏃 Regular movement.
☀️ Time outdoors.
❤️ Meaningful relationships.
🎯 A sense of purpose.
🧘 Less stress and more presence.

None of this is new. In fact, we all know it.

That’s what troubles us most. We’re surrounded by more health information than ever before, yet many of us feel increasingly overwhelmed, anxious and disconnected from the basics that actually matter.

The wellness industry keeps adding layers of complexity while people are quietly craving simplicity.

At Rush Nutrition, we’ve always believed that good health shouldn’t feel complicated. It should fit into real life. It should start with real ingredients, real nourishment and real moments shared with people you love.

The longevity brands that will matter most in the years ahead won’t necessarily be the ones with the most advanced formulas.

They’ll be the ones brave enough to build around what we’ve known all along.
