Why I turned down big supermarket chain deals—twice—to stay a one-woman cheese business 🧀👇

Some ​people often ask me about my cheese kitchen and why everything looks so quiet and spotless. The truth is, this space is strictly dedicated to one thing: handcrafting my artisanal cheeses.

​As the sole owner and maker here at Clere-Lapree handcrafted cheese, I handle every single batch myself.

I wanted to take a moment to answer a few common questions I get .

​Is Clere-Lapree handcrafted cheese Halal? Yes, all my handcrafted cheeses are 100% Halal.

​Why aren't you in major supermarkets? I’ve been approached twice by big retailers like Woolworths, but I made the conscious choice to say no.

I want Clere-Lapree to remain a small, niche, artisanal business so I can guarantee top quality in every single wheel.

​Are you currently delivering? Courier services are sadly on hold for now. I know this might be disappointing, but I will update you as soon as they resume!

​People often ask me, "When are you opening an online shop?" or "Where can I buy your cheese in stores?"

​It’s such a wonderful compliment, but the truth is, I’ve made a deliberate choice to keep Clere-Lapree small, slow, and personal—and here is why:

​Clere-Lapree is a one-woman labor of love. Every single wheel of cheese is crafted, aged, and cared for by my own two hands. Handcrafting in small batches allows me to give every step of the process the time, patience, and human touch it truly deserves.

​If I opened an online store or began supplying retail shops, I’d have to scale up—and scaling up means losing the very soul of what I do. It would mean replacing quiet, intentional craft with high volume, and trading the personal connections I cherish for shipping boxes and supermarket shelves.

​My absolute favorite part of this journey is you.🫶🧀✨️

I live for the magic of the market—standing face-to-face with you, handing you a sample, chatting about flavor notes, and seeing your face light up when you taste something made with heart.

That human connection and community spirit simply cannot be replicated through a screen or off a grocery shelf.

​By staying small, I protect both the quality of my handcrafted cheese and the pure joy of doing what I love, side-by-side with the people who appreciate it most.

Some customers simply light up your entire day.

Today at the Blue Route Mall Market in Tokai, a wonderful lady all the way from Century City stopped by my cheese stand and bought a wide variety of cheeses—without even tasting a single one first!

​Her trust in my craft was amazing enough, but she went above and beyond by blessing my business, giving me the warmest hug, and sending the sweetest message later on. I am completely blown away by her support and kindness.

Moments like this remind me why I love what I do! Thank you so much! 🧀✨❤️
