The Background
Narriman Joseph started producing a pre-baked rooti in the early 1990s after being inspired by her late father, Aghmat Sakier. The idea was to produce a household product that was convenient and required almost no preparation work at all. Her new business venture too her to the informal trading market at a nearby shopping complex in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain where she sold Rooti &
Curry. In 2007, Narriman along with her sister, Fatima Seria registered the business and with the same successful recipe introduced the Pre-Baked Rooti to the Cape Town community. Presently, the business leases a premises which is well-secured with 24 hour surveillance and also conforms with the Health regulations at the Philippi Fresh Produce Market in the Southern Suburbs. The corporation currently has 4 managing members which started with a staff compliment of 1 and grew to a team of 30 hardworking and friendly employees. Ghalwah Rootis & Pastries currently supply many supermarkets, butcheries, restaurants and takeaways such as Vangate Super Spar, Winners Cash & Carry, Elite Cash & Carry, Excellent Meat Market, Mitchells Moslem Butchery, Classic Meat Market and more.
