This is not the ‘real’ enjo. These are a few precious weeks of abundance in a desert landscape, the rest of the time it’s red sand and rocks and nothingness. Look closer:

That sand in the foreground isn’t a path, It’s a tiny scar where floodwaters tore through the landscape during May’s floods.

Look even closer and you’ll see a faint lavender haze on the mountains. That’s blue flax. From a distance it looks insignificant, but those slopes are covered in some of the thickest carpets of flax we’ve seen in years.

In the foreground, daisies and native wildflowers are making the most of a brief window of abundance. Just weeks ago, this was red sand, rocks and silence. Then the rains came, and life returned.

Now the valley hums with birdsong, pollinators and wildlife. Everything here understands something we often forget: life is precious, life is short, and every season is a gift.

By October, the flowers will have faded, the seeds will have fallen, the river will start to dry up and the valley will settle back into its long, dry, dust covered summer sleep. Hard times ahead.

Soon all of this will be a distant memory 🌼 and those memories will see us through the hard times while we wait for rains to return.

Seven years ago we became the owners of Enjo. These days, we prefer the word custodians.

In May, Enjo was hit by its third major flood in four years. It wasn’t the first challenge we’ve faced, and it likely won’t be the last. Yet every time this valley reminds us that beauty and hardship often arrive hand in hand.

Over the years we’ve watched guests come here to celebrate, to reconnect, to grieve, to heal, to breathe, and to simply be still. Their stories have become part of this place, just as much as the mountains, rivers, flowers, and wide-open skies.

What continues to amaze us is the kindness of the people who find their way here. The encouragement after floods, the messages of support, the willingness to love Enjo for what she is: wild, rugged, imperfect, and deeply beautiful.

So this is simply a thank you.

Thank you for travelling the long road. Thank you for cheering us on. Thank you for loving Enjo in every season, not just when she’s dressed in flowers, but also when she’s weathered, battered, and beginning again.

Because Enjo has never just been a landscape.

It’s a collection of stories, woven together by the people who leave a little piece of themselves behind. ❤️

We mean it sincerely when we say, we have the best guests.

To the fathers raising children. To the fathers who have lost children. To the children missing their fathers today. To the stepfathers, grandfathers, mentors and father figures. To the men carrying the weight of a family, often quietly. We see you.

Happy Father’s Day.

Love, enjo 🤍

So much to say, yet words escape us sometimes ✨

Not sure what steals the show here: The rainbow, the sheep grazing, the sunset, or the lush green replacing the red sand after the floods. One thing is certain… this landscape is beautiful in every season, and we never tire of watching it change. What a privilege it is to sit here and feel at peace in this special valley, it is well with my soul….
