Our No-AI Promise: The other day we showed our kids some photographs of Enjo, taken before generative AI was part of everyday life.

Their reaction to one of the skies was immediate: “Cap! There’s no way that’s real. That’s AI.” 😂 We laughed, but it also made us a little sad.

Because it made us realise that we have reached a point where something extraordinarily beautiful can almost look suspicious.

And Enjo really can look extraordinary.

What you see is what was there: Almost every photograph we share of Enjo is taken on a phone.

We do this deliberately. Most people have a phone in their pocket, and we want the Enjo you see online to be something you can experience and photograph yourself when you get here.

We don’t manufacture skies, add flowers, intensify sunsets or create landscapes that weren’t there.

We simply pay attention to light 👈 that part is important!

After living here for many years, we know when Enjo is at its most photogenic. Early mornings can be incredibly soft and clear. Late afternoons bring golden light across the mountains. After storms, the sky can become almost unbelievable.

There is no trick in waiting for beautiful light.

Sometimes we photograph Enjo in the middle of the day too, when the light is harsh and the landscape looks flatter, because sometimes the purpose of a photograph is simply to show you what something looks like.

Both are Enjo.

Why this matters to us: AI is becoming an everyday tool, including in agriculture, and we are not pretending otherwise.

But there is one place we don’t want it: between you and the landscape we are showing you.

We don’t want to add flowers that aren’t flowering. We don’t want to manufacture spectacular sunsets. We don’t want to make mountains more dramatic or cottages more idyllic. We don’t want our own words replaced by machines.

And we don’t want to create a version of Enjo that you arrive here and cannot find.

Pictures tell stories. Increasingly, they can tell stories more powerfully than words. That gives us a responsibility to make sure ours are true.

The Enjo promise: Enjo has always been about returning to something simpler.

Nature. Quiet. Space. Time away from screens. Time with the people you love, or sometimes just with yourself.

We don’t want to tell you what you should do with that space. There is no programme for slowing down here. No instructions for reconnecting with nature. No manufactured version of what an escape is supposed to look like. You arrive and let nature run its course.

So our approach to what we share online follows the same philosophy.

No AI-generated Enjo.
No AI-enhanced landscapes.
No fake flowers, skies or sunsets.
No manufactured version of this place.
No manufactured copy or text. Our words are our own.

If the sky looks unbelievable, it was. If the flowers look extraordinary, they were. If the mountains are glowing orange, you probably caught us at golden hour.

And if you come to Enjo, we hope that sooner or later you’ll find yourself standing somewhere with your phone in your hand, looking at the photograph you’ve just taken and thinking exactly what our children did: There’s no way that’s real.

Nature is more powerful and more beautiful than anything machines can make. The Cederberg is raw, rugged and beautiful, you have to see it to believe it.

Love, enjo

If you’ve stumbled across this and something in you is thinking, I need this…Perhaps you do.

Good walking. Good food. Good people. Plenty of laughter.

A little mini Camino.

One very beautiful corner of the world in which to find your feet again.

Earlier this week, a group of women arrived at Enjo to Camino. Some came for the challenge. Some for adventure. Some simply needed to escape the noise for a few days.

There’s something about walking that simply going away doesn’t give you. You can’t rush it. There’s no shortcut. Somewhere between the tired legs, big skies and putting one foot in front of the other, your mind starts to quieten too.

Life has a funny way of looking different a few kilometres later.

Camino means path or way, and the reason you start walking isn’t always the reason that ends up mattering.

We watched these women walk, struggle, encourage one another and laugh. A lot.

Then they came back to Enjo, and we looked after them.

No cell reception. No notifications. No electronic noise. Just mountains, flowers, extraordinary geology, tired bodies, good food and people sitting around a table actually talking to one another.

We had the privilege of feeding this formidable bunch for two nights, and I wish you could have heard the laughter around that table and felt the warmth that filled our old farmhouse.

Perhaps we don’t always need to conquer a mountain or completely change our lives.

Perhaps sometimes we just need to go for a long walk somewhere beautiful. Get tired. Laugh with strangers who aren’t really strangers anymore. Eat good food around a table. Look up.

And make enough quiet to hear ourselves again.

So if you’ve stumbled across this post and something in you is thinking, I need this…

Perhaps you do.

Good walking. Good food. Good people. Plenty of laughter. A little challenge. And one very beautiful corner of the world in which to find your feet again.

To this year’s ladies, thank you. You reminded us why we love what we do.

You gave Enjo all the feels. ❤️

O Here, ons dank U

altyd ’n herinnering wees
dat U liefde nooit verander nie.
Mag hierdie kerk se deure
steeds oopstaan vir elke vermoeide hart,
elke soekende siel
en elkeen wat U Naam aanroep.

Tot hiertoe het die Here ons gehelp.
— 1 Samuel 7:12

Here, ons kyk terug en sê: Dankie.
Ons kyk rondom ons en sê: Dankie.
Ons kyk vorentoe en sê: Ons vertrou U.

Want U genade was groot,
U liefde was getrou,
en U hand was oor Wupperthal
deur elke geslag.

🎺 Soli Deo Gloria — Aan God alleen die eer.🙏🏽🤍

‘’Die Here is goed; aan sy goedertierenheid is geen einde nie, en sy trou is van geslag tot geslag.”
— Psalm 100:5

Read this👇 Flower season 2026 at Enjo has been a journey, and one that certainly builds character!

But beneath it all, it’s an incredible privilege to witness nature up close.

Behind the flower reports, photographs and social media posts are simply people and communities doing the best we can in a season dictated entirely by nature.

Nature doesn’t work to our schedule, and that’s part of the magic.
