Jan Boland Coetzee was one of the great thinkers of South African wine. A winemaker who believed deeply in listening to vineyards, trusting the seasons, and letting wines take their time. His legacy lives on at Vriesenhof, tucked against the slopes of Paradyskloof, where elegance has always mattered more than recognition.
Vriesenhof wines are thoughtful and restrained.
Adam Mason has taken the reigns in the cellar and we can see his seasoned hand shining through already. Chardonnay 2024 shows classic citrus fruit with fresh flinty notes upfront. This is an elegant expression with just the right amount of weight to be serious and playful at the same time.
The Jan Boland Coetzee 2023 blend, in particular, feels like a gentle tribute. Layered, composed, and built for all occasions. It’s friendly, bright fruit, juicy fruit, but with an almost mineral core and wild fennel on the finish. Plush tannins makes this a go to wine for any occasion and any day of the week. Exactly the way Jan would’ve liked it!
We’re honoured to have Vriesenhof wines on our shelves at Wine Menu.
May the legacy live on for one of South Africa’s leading wine figures.
Some legacies are meant to be poured.
