KZN Cows Forced to Make Fire as Cold Front Turns KwaZulu-Natal Into Dairy Antarctica
KWA-ZULU-NATAL — While residents across parts of South Africa are reaching for blankets, jackets and anything else capable of stopping the winter cold, a group of KwaZulu-Natal cows has apparently decided that enough is enough.
The cows, pictured huddled around a small fire, appear to have taken matters into their own hooves after the latest cold front brought bitterly cold conditions and snowfall to parts of the province.
Reports today confirm that snow has been falling in parts of KZN, particularly around high-lying areas, with motorists warned to take care on affected roads.
But while humans were waiting for weather updates, these cows apparently held an emergency meeting.
According to sources close to the herd, the meeting lasted approximately seven minutes, mainly because everyone was too cold to stand around for longer.
“We Have Had Enough”
One cow allegedly told fellow members of the herd:
“We came outside expecting grass. Nobody told us there would be Antarctica.”
The cows then reportedly abandoned their normal grazing schedule and formed what experts are calling a “strategic thermal formation” around the fire.
The brown-and-white cow reportedly demanded that management provide additional firewood.
The black-and-white cows, meanwhile, allegedly complained that nobody had considered their heating allowance when preparing the annual cattle budget.
Cows Discover the Human Solution
According to observers, the herd initially tried standing close together for warmth.
This worked for approximately 11 seconds.
They then reportedly looked at the humans nearby, noticed the fire and collectively reached the conclusion:
“So THAT'S what they've been doing all winter.”
One cow is said to have immediately volunteered for firewood collection.
Unfortunately, it returned with a piece of grass.
The herd reportedly sent it back.
KZN Has Officially Become Too Cold
The cold spell has brought snow to parts of KZN, with snowfall reported in areas including the Drakensberg and around the Midlands.
Residents have been advised to prepare for very cold, wet and windy conditions, while snow remains possible over mountainous areas.
For the cows, however, the weather warning apparently came too late.
Sources say the herd has now established a 24-hour heating rota, with the night shift responsible for keeping the fire going.
The cows have also reportedly rejected the idea of sleeping in the shed.
“We didn't survive all that grazing just to sleep in a cold building,” one allegedly said.
Eskom Has Not Been Called Yet
There were fears that the cows might eventually request an electrical heater.
However, after hearing about load-shedding, the herd reportedly decided that the traditional fire was a safer option.
A cow reportedly asked:
“So electricity goes off AND it's cold? Yoh. We are staying with fire.”
Meanwhile, meteorologists continue monitoring the unusual winter conditions across the country.
The cows, however, have already issued their own forecast:
“Cold tonight. Fire tonight. Grass tomorrow. No negotiations.”
And judging by the photograph, the herd appears to have one final message for the cold front:
“You may bring the snow. We brought the fire.”
