Paul and Nicky Wallace purchased their 25 hectare farm in September 2003 and immediately set out to create their own little piece of heaven. Paul is a viticultural consultant and here at last he could practise what he has advised and encouraged other farmers to do in their vineyards. Black Dog Malbec carries a name rooted in memory, and is one of our most popular wines with our friends and family. It honours Jake, Paul’s constant companion when the farm was first established in 2003, when Jake was only a puppy.

It reflects the steadiness that has guided our work since then. Recent recognition has been welcomed as we received Malbec of The Year in the Platter’s Guide - but the wine will always remain grounded in its origins.

We are delighted to share the results of the 2026 National Wine Challenge, where several wines from the Paul Wallace range were recognised amongst the country’s leading wines 🍷

Our greatest accolade came in the form of a Grand Cru National Champion Best in Class award for the Paul Wallace Brave Heart Pinot Noir 2023, which was also named amongst the Top 100 Wines in South Africa and received a Double Platinum award.

The Paul Wallace Crackerjack 2022 was likewise recognised with a Double Platinum award and inclusion in the Top 100 Wines in South Africa, a particularly rewarding result for a wine that has always represented the strength of blending and the diversity of our Elgin vineyards.

Further recognition came through Double Gold awards for both the Paul Wallace Black Dog Malbec 2023 and the Paul Wallace Reflection Chardonnay 2025.

As a small family producer, these accolades mean a great deal to us. They acknowledge not only the work that takes place in the cellar, but the countless decisions made in the vineyard throughout the growing season. We are fortunate to farm in a remarkable part of the world and grateful to be surrounded by a community of producers who continually raise the standard of South African wine.

Most importantly, we would like to thank those who continue to support our wines. It is a privilege to share them with you.

The Highlander presents a bright, inviting colour, followed by aromas of red and black currants, raspberries, and sundried tomato, supported by a subtle note of green tomato leaf. The palate is generous and assured, offering richness without excess.
It pairs particularly well with roast lamb, lasagne, and tomato-based stews, making it a natural choice for the table rather than the cellar alone.

Crackerjack began as an indulgence for the lady of the house, whose appreciation for fine Bordeaux-style blends is well known. Over time, it became a collaborative effort between Paul, Nicky, and Bobby Wallace, shaped by discussion, tasting, and a shared understanding of balance. The result is a wine that reflects both intention and enjoyment, while showcasing the versatility of Elgin.

Autumn has arrived in Elgin with a quiet certainty, the vineyards shifting in tone as the last of the season’s work settles behind us.

Only a few weeks ago we were speaking of the challenges of harvest, and yet, as is so often the case, experience in the vineyard and a steady hand in the cellar have carried us through.

The wines now rest safely in barrel, there is a satisfaction in this stage of the year - a moment to pause, to observe, and to trust that what has been set in motion will continue to unfold as it should.

Our white wines reflect both site and stewardship. Reflection Chardonnay comes from our own south-facing vineyard and is shaped by patience and restraint.

Little Flirt Sauvignon Blanc draws its character from the highest terraces on the farm. Together, they represent how we approach Elgin - thoughtfully, and with respect for detail.

Visitors are often greeted by our three black Labradors, who have made the farm their own. They are part of the daily rhythm here - present in the vineyards, the cellar, and the spaces in between. We look forward to welcoming you, and they will be there to do the same.

A visit to our tasting room offers a quiet, considered introduction to Paul Wallace Wines. Set on the farm, it is a place to take time, taste through the range, and understand how each wine has been shaped by site, season, and careful decision-making.

Conversations tend to unfold naturally, often with one of the family present, and the experience is guided as much by the vineyard and cellar as by the glass in front of you. It is an opportunity to engage with the wines in the context in which they were made.
