on that inspired the Portuguese explorers to discover a sea route to the spice-rich East. In 1488 Bartholmeu Diaz had the first sighting of the southernmost tip of Africa. Today, the grapes for First Sighting wines are grown on Africa’s southernmost vineyards near Cape Agulhas. First Sighting wines fully express the terroir of the Elim ward, where varying soil types and relentless winds off the Atlantic ensure slow ripening, modest yields and intense flavours. Please join us in congratulating our Assistant Winemaker, Esterina Fourie, on being recognised as one of WineLand Media's 30 Under 30 for 2026.

This prestigious recognition celebrates a new generation of young professionals making their mark on the South African wine industry. Since joining the Strandveld team, Esterina has brought passion, dedication, curiosity, and an unwavering willingness to learn to every aspect of the winemaking journey.

Working alongside our winemaking team, she has played an important role in the vineyards and cellar, gaining invaluable hands-on experience while contributing to the wines and stories that define Strandveld.
