Stony Brook concentrates on producing top quality wines that reflect the unique micro climate of this southern-most corner of Franschhoek. The owners, Nigel and Joy McNaught, founded Stony Brook to satisfy their love of quality wines. This boutique wine farm produces many different wines in relatively small quantities in an environmentally-friendly manner to minimize their carbon footprint. Wine tastings are offered on the farm in the newly-built tasting room adjacent to the cellar. For more information on tasting wine at Stony Brook, click here. Stony Brook's flagship wine, 'Ghost Gum'; a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has spent 32 months in new French Oak. This highly-rated wine is named after the one hundred and fifty-year-old Ghost Gum tree that sheds its bark in the summer and is visible from the farm's tasting area.

The story behind one of our most-loved w**es, The Max. 🍷

Did you know that The Max was named after a rather special member of the Stony Brook family?

Max was the McNaught family’s beloved Jack Russell, who joined the family in 2003. Small in size but certainly not in personality, Max was bold, full of character and a familiar face around the farm and tasting room for 15 years.

When the McNaught family created their first Bordeaux-style blend in 2004, it seemed only fitting to name it after him. Much like its namesake, The Max was made to be bold, memorable and full of character.

Although Max passed away in 2018, his legacy lives on in every bottle. 🐶🍷
