'Adi grew up between the vineyards of Constantia and spent his time picking (stealing) grapes. "It all started when Jean Daneel, then winemaker at Buitenverwachting, let me make my first wine when I was thirteen", Adi recalls.

On Kalmoesfontein it is back to basics, using traditional winemaking equipment and old cement kuipe. We make wines with immense character, using what we can afford, and we are having great experiences.'

Always wanted to know the history behind Sabrage? "The technique became popular in France when the army of Napoleon visited many of the aristocratic domains. It was just after the French Revolution and the saber was the weapon of choice of Napoleon's light cavalry (the Hussars). Napoleon's spectacular victories across all Europe gave them plenty of reason to celebrate. During these parties the cavalry would open the champagne with their sabers. Napoleon, who was known to have said, "I drink champagne when I win, to celebrate... and I drink champagne when I lose, to console myself", may have encouraged this.
There are many stories about this tradition. One of the more spirited tales is that of Madame Clicquot, who had inherited her husband's small champagne house at the age of 27. She used to entertain Napoleon's officers in her vineyard, and as they rode off in the early morning with their complimentary bottle of champagne, they would open it with their saber to impress the rich young widow." *Out of office* - Paul and Nicky are headed to to Wine on Water - St Francis Bay for a weekend of Eastern Cape sun, boating fun and phenomenal wine! ⛵️🍷🌊☀️

This incredible wine festival features two days of wine tasting along the canals, jetties and decks of St Francis Bay. The proceeds from this Rotary Club of St Francis initiative will go towards worthy causes in the greater area, helping those in need.

Please note that our Tasting Room back home in Elgin will be CLOSED this weekend.

With a glass of Pinotage in hand, he tells her about growing up on the farm, his first barrel of wine, the next generation and the legacy of Pinotage. Weltevrede Wine Estate
I don't know where to begin even. Here is some some of the writing that inspired me...."Without brokenness there is no greatness" - The chronicles of the Poet's Prayer.
"I agree with the saying of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry when it comes to the making of Weltevrede Chardonnay. "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
"Trust is earned by steadfastness.
To always be what you are believed to be, without exception. To have integrity. To be counted on.
"Chardonnay reveals very little of herself and when asked.
"Why are you so beautiful", she humbly points to her origin, her terroir.
