**Medical aid and health insurance aren't the same thing.**

The names may sound similar, but they are different ways of helping you manage healthcare costs in South Africa.

Medical aid is provided through a registered medical scheme and is governed by the Medical Schemes Act. Depending on the option, it may help pay for hospital treatment, certain prescribed minimum benefits and other healthcare services according to the scheme's rules and benefits.

Health insurance is an insurance product. Depending on the type of policy, it may provide specified healthcare benefits or pay defined amounts when certain covered healthcare events or services occur. The benefits, limits and exclusions are determined by the policy.

Neither should automatically be viewed as simply “better” than the other.

What matters first is understanding what each one is, what it covers and how it works before making healthcare decisions.

A New Chapter Begins

Sometimes the hardest decision is also the most exciting one.

After many rewarding years in the baking industry, I've decided to pursue a new passion and build something different.
