At the opening of Lucy Robson’s exhibition at Southern Guild on 28 May, we were honoured to pour wines shaped by place, precision and restraint.

Autumn in the Hemel en Aarde
As the season turns, now is the time to regenerate our soils. Farm manager Stefan Hartmann and his team are preparing the vineyards for the colder months ahead, laying down a generous layer of mulch beneath the vines. Milled on the estate from alien vegetation, this forms part of our ongoing fynbos preservation programme. It’s a regenerative approach that supports vineyard health while respecting the delicate balance of this remarkable landscape.

Healthier soils result in wines with depth, character and the very essence of the Hemel-en-Aarde.

As one of the early forerunners of Chardonnay in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, we’re celebrating Chardonnay Day today with a showcase of some of our most exceptional examples of this varietal. Each wine translates Chris Albrecht’s deep respect for terroir into precision and nuance, tasted in every pour.

Missionvale Chardonnay
This multi-award-winning Chardonnay is the ultimate expression of the Bouchard Finlayson estate. Integrated oak flavours and creamy vanilla notes come through in Chris’ measured approach to working with this single block. One of our most-loved wines, our Missionvale 2024 is currently sold out – with the 2025 vintage being eagerly awaited.

Kaaimansgat Chardonnay
This invigorating Chardonnay benefits from the cool autumn temperatures of its unique elevated site, nurtured by Bouchard Finlayson for over 30 years. The high altitude comes through with apricot and lemons that leap out of the glass, finishing with a lightly textured end.

Sans Barrique Unwooded Chardonnay
If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc, give this one a try. The grape in its purest form – fresh, clean and bursting with brightness. The grapes are gently handled with precision, allowing the Chardonnay grapes to show their unique complexity. ‘Sans barrique’ means ‘without barrels’: this wine is lighter in style than classical wooded Chardonnays.

We are proud to announce the launch of WITH CARE, a new series of monthly gatherings offering guests rare access to the deeper philosophy, craftsmanship and cultural context behind one of South Africa’s most respected wine estates.

Held at out POP UP in Hermanus on the last Wednesday of the month, each evening is designed not as an event but as an unfolding, offering a deeper look into the elements that define the wines and the thinking behind them.

The first event in the series, titled ‘From This Soil: An Intimate Exploration of Terroir and Chardonnay’, will be held on Wednesday, 27 May from 6:30-8:30 pm hosted by winemaker Chris Albrecht and farm manager Stefan Hartmann.
