Gabriëlskloof - Oxalis - This powerful maiden vintage shows a dense bouquet of red and black fruit, violets, white pepper and dried sage. The palate is pure-fruited, succulent and intense: black cherries, muddled blueberries and cocoa nibs, while the dry, sappy tannin structure from whole bunch fermentation delivers texture and length. Poised, powerful and finessed, it’s a wine that delivers early but carries the added promise of ageability.

Can you tell Gabriëlskloof love Syrah?

Not one. Not two. Five Syrahs, all grown on their farm. Their Swartrivier is the easy-drinking charmer, Wholebunch leans more experimental, and Sandstone and Shale come from two completely different corners of the property and taste like it - one concentrated and chalky, the other opulent and perfumed. Then there’s Oxalis, the newest addition, ready to drink now but built to reward some patience too.

Same grape, same farm, five completely different personalities.

Important notice:

will be closed for the month of July!

They have had a beautiful season.

Their Tasting Room and The Kitchen Door Restaurant are closing after 28 June for the month of July - to give their team a break, to do some much-needed repairs and maintenance and come back better than ever.

They reopen on 1 August (which also happens to be The Kitchen Door’s first birthday - lots of celebrating!).

Our online shop stays open through July - with deliveries still taking place within 3 to 5 days.

They look forward to welcoming you again in August!

It’s Day!

There are three Chenins worth celebrating at : Synonym, Era & Elodie.

Synonym: Chenin Blanc is synonymous with South African wine. Delicious and moreish, with fruit sourced from the Swartland and Bot River. Their two Landscape Series Chenins come with names that are a bit more personal - Era René is named after Bernhard’s mother, and is made with fruit from Gabriëlskloof. Elodie is named after his sister, made with old vine Chenin from four vineyards in the Swartland. Different soils, different stories, all three worth opening today.

Bot River is genuinely a good Chenin country, and we have producers who prove it: Beaumont’s Hope Marguerite, Luddite’s Chenin, Villion’s Henning, to name a few. If today’s the excuse you needed to explore what this corner of the Overberg does with the variety, we think that’s a perfectly good reason.
