Hands up if you only learned one of these popcorn facts today:
1. There are two popcorn shapes: mushroom, and butterfly. Butterfly popcorn is a little more common, like what we use in microwave popcorn; it’s little wings make it ideal to cling on to the salt and seasoning you pour over your snack. Mushroom, on the other hand, is shaped like a tiny little ball with smooth edges, making it perfect for candied glazes to stick onto.
2. Early movie theaters banned popcorn, because eating it created too much noise during the movie experience! But around 1912, movie theatres started selling the snack directly.
3. National Popcorn Day is celebrated every year on 9 January... save the date, friends!
