# # # 🌿 Meet the Blue Duiker — *iPhiti* 🦌

Have you ever been lucky enough to spot one of these little characters moving quietly through the undergrowth?
This is a **Blue Duiker (*Philantomba monticola*)**, known locally as **iPhiti** — one of Africa’s smallest antelope and a fascinating part of our indigenous forests and thickets.
💙 **Why “Blue” Duiker?**
Their coat has a distinctive blue-grey appearance, particularly in the right light.
🦌 **Small but perfectly adapted**
Standing at only around **35–40 cm at the shoulder**, this tiny antelope can move through dense vegetation where larger animals simply can't.
🌱 **What does it eat?**
Blue Duikers browse on leaves, shoots, flowers, fallen fruit and other plant material.
🌳 **A secretive forest dweller**
They depend on dense vegetation for food, shelter and protection. You are much more likely to hear a rustle in the undergrowth than actually see one!
🐾 **Why do they matter?**
Despite their small size, Blue Duikers form an important part of the ecosystem and food chain, contributing to the natural functioning of our forests and thickets.
⚠️ **Protecting the little ones matters.**
Healthy indigenous forests, riverine vegetation and natural thickets provide essential habitat for iPhiti and countless other species.
📸 **This beautiful Blue Duiker was captured on camera in the Lions River area.**
Next time you hear something moving beneath the leaves, stop and look carefully… **you might just be sharing the forest with an iPhiti.** 🌿🦌
