Candling is checking inside the egg with light — to see if baby chick is growing.
-You need: Dark room + your torch
-Put your touch on table light up
-Put the egg on top of the light big side up
-Hold gently, turn slowly
*When to candle
Day 7 — First check
- Good egg: You see red veins like spider web, and a small dark spot (heart). This is FERTILE, keep it.
- Bad egg: Clear, just yellow glow. No veins. This is empty — remove and cook it.
-Blood ring: Red circle, no veins — embryo died. Remove, it will rot.
Day 14— Second check
- Good egg: Mostly dark, almost full, you see the air pocket on top is bigger.
- Bad egg: Still clear or blood ring — throw away.
Day 18 — Last check before lockdown
- Good egg: Fully dark except air cell. Don't turn again after this. Increase water for humidity.
- Chick will hatch Day 21.
Don't shake egg. Don't keep out more than 5 minutes — it gets cold.
Tips for you as beginner:
If not sure if fertile or not on Day 7, DON'T throw it. Mark with pencil ? and check again Day 10. Sometimes eggs grow slowly.
