🥩🔥ROODT MEAT GORDON ROAD🔥🥩 The Best Beef Breyani whilst cooking with the Roodt’s! 👌
This week we bring you “Kerry’s Lekker Beef Breyani” and if there’s one thing you do… it should be to make this!
Breyani Ingredients:
- 1kg Beef stewing meat
- 2 tsps fresh garlic
- 2 tsps fresh grated ginger
- 2 cups full cream plain yoghurt
- Breyani spice mix ( I used woolies brand )
- 1.5 cups brown lentils
- 2 cups white basmati rice
- dried turmeric
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 Tbsp fresh thyme
- butter
- olive oil
- 2 onions ( chopped )
- 3 potatoes ( quartered )
Breyani Method:
1️⃣ Marinate beef overnight in 2 cups yogurt, 2 tsps garlic, 2 tsps ginger and 4 generously heaped tsps Breyani spice mix.
2️⃣ Cook basmati rice with 1 cinnamon stick, 1 bay leaf and a good sprinkle of turmeric until 3 quarters of the way cooked, according to package instructions and set aside.
3️⃣ Cook lentils according to package instructions and set aside.
4️⃣ Boil potatoes until almost soft and then fry them up until crispy and golden and set aside.
5️⃣ Fry up 1 onion until golden and set aside.
6️⃣ In a big pot fry up 1 onion in some butter and olive oil, add 2 teaspoons of Breyani spice mix, 1 bay leaf, 1 cinnamon stick and 2 Tbsps fresh thyme. Add marinated meat and cook on a low heat until meat is almost done. Add water if needed. Cooking low and slow will create a gravy.
7️⃣ In an ovenproof dish begin your layering. Layer meat with a handful of lentils, layer basmati rice on top, layer lentils on top of rice, place fried potatoes on top and then the fried onion. Add a few dollops of butter over the dish, some fresh, chopped coriander and then cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven on 170 degrees celcius for 45 minutes to an hour. Gently stir breyani half way through its cooking time. Serve with dressing and enjoy!
Coriander Yoghurt Dressing Ingredients:
- 2 handfuls fresh coriander
- 1.5 cups full cream plain yoghurt
- 2 small green chillies
- 1 tsp garlic
- splash of lemon juice
- 1-2 tsps sugar ( according to taste )
- salt and pepper ( according to taste )
Dressing Method:
1️⃣ Add all the ingredients
