Sometimes when I go birding, I take a tub of mealworms along. It take some convincing to get a bird to try the worms. At the Aloe Farm the other day I tried the whole morning to get some takers. At last this Kurrichane Thrush decided I am trustworthy enough. Once she started eating, she was quite willing to pose for some lovely shots.
Then the skulking Southern Boubou decided to join in the feast.
Finally I also convinced the Cape Robin-chat that she has to come into the sunlight so that I can take some photos.
I must admit, I got some odd looks from other people enjoying the garden. But to me it is absolute natural to talk to my beloved birds....and to thank them when I'm done photographing.

My husband reckons I'm a 'bird-whisperer' You decide: This Pin-tailed Whydah came to my Littlest Forest to feed. (For those that do not know, the Littlest Forest is my front garden and is a real forest of 3m by 10m and belongs to my Red-headed Finches that I've been feeding there for the last 6 years) Now, Pin-tailed Whydahs are very aggressive during breeding time and would chase any bird. After explaining, this is not allowed here (but you're welcome to chase the hordes of doves that come and feed on the ground LOL) the Whydah did just that. He stopped chasing the Finches........I love it when they understand me, it's such a pretty bird , I really did not want to chase him away.

I'm back! After a Facebook-Sabbatical of 2 years, I'll be posting photos again.
I've at last finished identifying the 120 000 photos that I had to redo after my hard drive was stolen. The problem is that in the interim I have been birding (a lot), so the work is never ending. But such is the joys of being a bird photographer!
