A mother’s day message from our founder and creator Karen Schneid:

Before Ooh la la, there was 𝓢𝓪𝓯𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓷 & 𝓢𝓬𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓮𝓽𝓽

From the minute my daughters were born, I began to see the world differently. Ordinary moments became grand adventures and through their eyes, everything became more magical. Travelling the world with them and creating wildly imaginative parties together made me want to turn everything into a story waiting to be told. They became my muses in every sense of the word.

The whimsy, wonder and imagination that live at the heart of Ooh la la were born from creating magic for two little girls and seeing just how powerful beauty, joy and imagination can be.

So while Ooh la la may have grown far beyond our family kitchen, its heart has always started with them.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my dream and thank you to Saffron and Scarlett for being my muses.

When I started Ooh la la all those years ago, markets were our bread and butter. They were how I introduced our little world of confectionery to people, one conversation, one taste, one curious passerby at a time.

In those early days it was such a thrill to stand behind a market table and sell something I had actually made with my own hands. Especially after spending my days arguing in court. The contrast always made me smile.

Those early markets meant everything. They helped me find my customers, build our name, and slowly grow Ooh la la into what it is today.

Over the years we have been incredibly lucky to grow beyond markets as our main focus. Today I find myself working on new ventures and dreaming up new chapters for Ooh la la.

But there is one market we will never outgrow: Kamers.

Being here this week has reminded me exactly why. The atmosphere, the people, the creativity everywhere you look. This is South Africa at its absolute best. Beautiful design, thoughtful craftsmanship and art in every corner.

What I love most is that it is filled with people who have chosen to follow their passion. Makers, artists and creators who pour their hearts into what they do. There is something very special about standing among people who care as deeply about their work as I care about Ooh la la.

In many ways, this is exactly the kind of world I always imagined Ooh la la belonging to.

If you are nearby, please come and say hello. Kamers is one of the most wonderful outings you could hope for. A place to wander, discover and be inspired.

As the new year begins, I just wanted to say thank you for being part of the Ooh la la world. I hope you had a beautiful holiday season filled with joy, celebration, and a little magic.

Thank you for supporting a small, female owned, local business. Every piece we create is made by a team I am deeply proud of, each person personally trained and up skilled by me, with care, patience, and a shared love for craftsmanship.
