Ooh La La Artisan Confectionery does not make ordinary confections. One doesn’t need words to know this, a bite will do. Unexpected flavours, textures, the finest and most rare of ingredients all come together to sing a song in your mouth. It’s a song you’ll want to play over and over again. And once you’ve heard it you’re not likely to forget it. Ooh La La La Artisan Confectionery was born long before it opened its doors in 2009. For many years it lived as a small flame in Karen Schneid’s heart, dancing around as a love for France and food. And then, one day, on a trip to a small rural village near Aix-en-Provence, a single bite of the legendary calisson sparked an all-consuming, burning passion that would see her enter a world of historians, artisans, merchants and those who guard the sweet secrets of the ancient science of sugar in the hidden corners of France. Ooh La La Confectionery is not made from recipes, it is made from legends. Because what goes into each batch, slowly cooked in copper cauldrons and cast iron pots, is a whole lot of heart and a head full of dreams.

From one little Calisson discovered in Aix-en-Provence to an Ooh La La team handcrafting our confections in Johannesburg, it has been quite a story.

Ooh la la! Today we're celebrating all things French... and we're especially proud that our Original French Nougat has been chosen to fly with Air France. ✈️🇫🇷

This nougat was the very first confection Karen ever made. After searching for a nougat in South Africa that captured the quality and flavour of those she'd fallen in love with in France, she decided to recreate her favourite in her own kitchen. Made with roasted hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds and vanilla beans, it has become one of our signature creations, and has won a Double Gold star award from Great Taste Awards in the UK, known as the Oscars of the food industry.

A mother’s day message from our founder and creator Karen Schneid:

Before Ooh la la, there was 𝓢𝓪𝓯𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓷 & 𝓢𝓬𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓮𝓽𝓽

From the minute my daughters were born, I began to see the world differently. Ordinary moments became grand adventures and through their eyes, everything became more magical. Travelling the world with them and creating wildly imaginative parties together made me want to turn everything into a story waiting to be told. They became my muses in every sense of the word.

The whimsy, wonder and imagination that live at the heart of Ooh la la were born from creating magic for two little girls and seeing just how powerful beauty, joy and imagination can be.

So while Ooh la la may have grown far beyond our family kitchen, its heart has always started with them.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my dream and thank you to Saffron and Scarlett for being my muses.
