So... I remember when i was about 4 or 5 years old and i was living with my mother. There was a day where we had no food whatsoever the only thing that was there was maize and R5. My mom had tried to make ends meet before then but that day she'd run out of ideas. So to refresh her mind off of the stress she had we took a walk to the nearest shopping centre opposite to where there's Phola Mall today to do window shopping nyana as we usually would when we want to escape our reality, we were also staying around there by Phola park then.
So on our way back my mom decided to buy peanuts from the street vendors and when we got home I asked "so what are we gonna eat today mom since there's nothing mara?" And she said, "well i have a surprise for you, just wait til I'm doneπ" me being me vele i got excited and she started cooking pap then after that she dished up. ππ the picture below is exactly how the meal wasπ€. I was surprised for real, and then she told me how back in the days the elderly people used to love eating peanuts with pap and that they wouldn't even share this with the kids much because it was one of their favourite indigenous foods known to be much nutritious so the elderly loved it since it made them stronger and made them live longer. So me eating this would ensure i live longer and stronger.
πLol the truth is i was smart enough to know that's most probably not true but i enjoyed listening to her getting creative with a situation that could've been heartbreaking and sad, AND i actually enjoyed the meal honestly. My mom's stories were always awesome, maybe it's because I also had a wild imagination. But they always got us through hard times.
You're more than welcome to share your story through a meal on this very page if you want, weather good or bad. Just for the fun of it let's remember the memories we made through the food that brings us together.ππ
