📢 This week, we’re opening the floor to the water sector ahead of the upcoming SANS 241:2025 webinar (1 July 2026) hosted by WISA in partnership with Water&Sanitation Africa magazine.

The revised SANS 241 standard represents a major shift in drinking water quality management - with important implications for municipalities, water boards, laboratories and service providers.

As preparations continue, we’d like to hear from the sector:

🔹 What pressing questions do you have about the latest version of SANS 241?
🔹 Are there specific operational, technical or compliance challenges you want the panel to unpack?
🔹 What clarity do you still need on implementation in practice?

Our expert panel will be addressing real-world implications during the session, and your input helps shape a more focused, practical discussion.

📅 Webinar: 1 July 2026
💻 Hosted by the Water Institute of Southern Africa & Water&Sanitation Africa magazine

📩 Share your questions in the comments or send them through ahead of the session.

How to use our drinking water test kits 💧

Clear water doesn’t always mean safe water. Our kits quickly check the potability of your water, giving you clear insight into whether it’s safe to drink.

Micole Martens walks you through it step by step, showing just how simple it is to test your water at home or on site - no technical expertise needed.

The kits can be used across a wide range of sources, including boreholes, springs, municipal (tap) water, and household water supplies.

Project update 💧

We’re proud to have successfully designed, built, and commissioned an expansion to the existing water treatment plant at Pan African Resources' Evander Gold Mine, effectively doubling treatment capacity from 3 ML/d to 6 ML/d.

“The objective of phase 2 was not only to scale capacity, but to do so without disrupting an already critical operational asset,” says project manager, Kieran Govender. Reflecting on the delivery of the project, Implementation manager Jutta Dedekind adds: “I’m incredibly proud of the way our team executed the design, installation, commissioning and handover process on this plant.”

The Talbot operated plant represents an advancement in sustainable water management, demonstrating how focused engineering, value optimisation and disciplined ex*****on can enhance water security at deep-level gold operations.

Well done to all partners and teams involved in delivering this successful project!

Whether you’re looking to design, build, operate or optimise a water treatment or recovery plant, Talbot partners with clients to deliver resilient, end-to-end industrial water security solutions.

💧The new SANS 241 is more than just a standard. It redefines drinking water management and is a tool for managing risk in a water-scarce future.

“South Africa’s water landscape is changing, and with it, the way water quality is measured, managed and assured. The latest revision of SANS 241 reflects this shift, placing far greater emphasis on risk-based assessment rather than routine, tick-box compliance,” explains Micole Martens, Director at Talbot.

🗨️ “The idea that the past is a window to the future is particularly relevant in the context of South Africa’s water crisis.”

Carl Haycock, CEO of Talbot The art of Water, highlights a critical challenge: the country’s recurring cycle of crisis, response, and complacency.

From droughts to infrastructure failures and near-misses like Cape Town’s Day Zero, the warning signs are clear - yet long-term planning often fades once supply stabilises. Without learning from these events, South Africa risks facing even more severe and costly disruption.

So how is Talbot responding to this growing water security challenge?
