A slow afternoon walk around the farm turned exciting very quickly when our eldest daughter spotted this Puff Adder before the dogs got too close. Thankfully she shouted in time and everyone moved away safely.
It's normal for us to see these guys out now when the colder weather starts setting in.

Puff adders are one of the most common snakes in South Africa and rely on camouflage rather than speed to protect themselves. They often stay very still, which makes them easy to miss. Despite their reputation, they usually prefer to avoid conflict if left alone. Nature keeps us on our toes out here on the farm!

I found this beautiful little Pincushion flower at the bottom of our pecan nut field, and it felt like such a special surprise. We do not have them anywhere on the farm, and the nearest gardens are far away, so it is amazing to think it may have found its way here by bird, animal, or even the wind. Sometimes the smallest wildflowers are the sweetest reminders of how nature quietly spreads beauty in the most unexpected places🤍 🥰

Hi everyone 🐣

I’d like to let you know that I will be closing my farm shop after the Easter weekend.

Before then, I’ll be offering a selection of my décor and display items at discounted prices. If there’s anything you’ve admired in the shop, feel free to pop in and take a look.
🧁Orders for baked goods can still be placed and collected on appointment🧁

Thank you for all your support over this time — it’s been truly appreciated.
We will be open from 10am to 5pm daily over the long weekend.

Kind regards,
Katrien from the Chik-In Farm Shop ✨

A big thank you to everyone who supported our free-range chicken recently — we are officially sold out! 🐔

Unfortunately our abattoir is currently closed for renovations, so we won’t have more chicken available for the next few weeks.

We’ll let you know as soon as fresh stock is ready again. Thank you so much for your patience and continued support of our little farm shop! 🌿
