MEET THE HANDS BEHIND THE HERD โStormberger Cattle
The Stormberg Cattle Group was formed in ๐๐๐๐ by a group of like-minded farmers from the ๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ๐ , ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐๐ฉ๐, with the aim to breed fertile, well-adapted cattle able to withstand an unforgiving climate.
A central herd was formed that ran on Frere Dell, farm of one of the founding members, ๐๐จ๐ก๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฒ. In time, the herd numbers were increased onto the farms of fellow members, ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ค ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐จ๐ง. From the three herds, which today comprise in excess of 1500 cows, the best bulls are selected to be used across the nucleus herds and then put onto the sale the following year. In 2026, the group will hold their ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฅ๐.
The Stormberger breed is built on a clear philosophy with ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง being the cornerstones of the breeding programme.
The breeders have been performance testing their cattle since the inception of the Stormberg Cattle Group, and their selection policy is based on the Lasater principles and philosophies, assisted by consultants Gary Trethewey of BKB and Andrew Hartley of AHL.
