Priya Glamping Update:
The cotton pyramid tent has arrived! โ›บ

I set it up this afternoon just to check that everything is there. Very happy. The quality is beautiful - lovely tent.

The breathable cotton gives a nice atmosphere, it's very nice and spacious inside.

Night Adder ๐Ÿ

Found this little Rhombic Night Adder while breaking down an old goat house today.

It is venomous - bite causes pain and swelling and without treatment you could get serious problems. It's not an aggressive snake, we work around them usually. We have alot of them here, so we just look out for them, id be spending my days relocating them if i move them all.

Mira my daughter was bitten by one years ago, but it was a dry bite.

Getting ready for the big rain tomorrow ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

We took the water pump out of the river so it doesn't wash away, and dug trenches along the driveway and around the house and goat houses to guide the water.
Living on a mountain slope we always have to do this before heavy rain.

Works well preparing, learnt the hard way.

Update from Priya Farm Glamping site! โ›บ๏ธ

I bought the Cotton Duck Canvas Tent this morning our biggest expense! Most of the donated money is now spent, but we have the most important part. It should arrive in about a week.

We have moved the site a little bit further down from the original spot. We still needed to do all the clearing we did, because you can't access the new site without going through there.

The new site is actually way better - it's more private, better acces to the river and you can hear the river on site, and there is already lots of green indigenous bush. The other site was a little desolate after clearing all the invasives and may not be grown back by season. Here we only have to cut 3 or 4 wattle trees and then the site is pretty much ready.

Next week we start - digging, building, and planning what size planks we need. We also have most of the materials ready for the compost toilet, just need a few extras like cement still.

The donations made now will be going toward fridge, kitchen accesories, bedding, mattress, solar setup.

We'd love to be ready by December, God willing!

P.S. If anyone would still like to contribute to the build - every donation will be given back as a stay out-of-season to the value of your donation.

All details and banking / BackaBuddy link is pinned at the top of Priya page.

Bee mission accomplished... kind of ๐Ÿ˜…

Last night โœจ๏ธ we tried to put a fence around the beehives - got stung again. Thought we'd be clever and try again this morning without a suit - got another 7 stings.

Bees do not like digging near their hive at all, they also dont like sweat smell. Thats why we work around their hive at night or early before sunrise.

Those bees are WILDLY angry little things ๐Ÿ at the moment. Very aggressive.

Had to finish the job off in a bee suit to get it done.

Hives are now secured though!
Goats cant get near the hives now.

Video of a window that looks into the bee hive. Its Kenyan bee hives Ed made years ago. Will make a post on Kenyan Hives some time, really nice easy to build bee hive.

Donkey boiler is in! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We've set it up so we can use either gas geyser or donkey boiler โ€” there's an inlet tap that we can close or open. If we're using the gas heater we just close the inlet on the donkey and open the gas up, and if we're using the donkey boiler we just open the tap and close the gas bottle. It's also got a pressure control on the outlet side of the donkey boiler for safety.

Phase two will be rebuilding the whole stone fire pit area for the bigger gas bottle.

Thank you Dave and Gill Manley for organizing the big gas bottle and connecting pipes and sorting everything.
Hugo, thanks for installing.

Smaller one taken out now so hopefully we can finally have some decent baths now!

It's also a great way to save on gas โ€” we've got loads of wattle to burn and it works really well, and gas has just gotten so expensive.

Chuffed and grateful to have it done!

So far we've got a Porcupine and a Vervet Monkey on camera.

The trap is still up, hopefully we get to see the Caracal / Rooikat.

Going to move the trap to a pathway that the wildife use a bit further away from the house to see if we see more.

Milking ๐Ÿ–ค Zara twice a day now because she lost her baby. Need to keep her comfortable and stop her getting mastitis.

Got 387.6ml this morning which is really good for these small dwarf goats. They can give alot more milk with special foods being fed, but we keep it natural here and they feed mostly off nature, bush and grass, with only a hand full of antelope pellets to get them back into their houses in the evening.
They don't give a lot of milk because they're small, but their milk is very rich and creamy. It has up to 10% butterfat, highest of all the dairy goats.
