I should have expected a great kombucha from a Cape Town-based brewery, but this turned out to be the best I have ever had, especially the Rose Geranium. During travel, we often experience stomach and gut discomfort from all the new environments and ingredients, so combining travel with kombucha is the perfect way to keep you going.”

I just got back from Morocco. And I need to talk about tea. 🌿 I knew it would be significant. I did not expect it to be this profound.

In Morocco 🇲🇦, mint tea — called atay in Darija — is not a drink. It is a daily ritual performed with deliberate care, almost like a performance. A social contract. An expression of welcome, friendship and generosity. They call it “Berber whiskey” — not because it intoxicates, but because it is the cultural equivalent of the most important drink in the room. Every single day is marked by the ritual of its preparation, at least three times from dawn to dusk.

What struck me most was this: when British merchants introduced Chinese green tea to Morocco through the port of Essaouira, Moroccans blended it with fresh mint, added generous amounts of sugar, and within decades this combination became the centrepiece of Moroccan hospitality.

They were not manipulated into switching to black tea. They took the ingredient and made it entirely, defiantly their own.
