A sober pregnancy should never be a responsibility carried by one person alone. The people around a pregnant woman can make a difference. Partners, family, friends and communities can offer support by understanding the importance of avoiding alcohol during pregnancy and creating an environment where that choice is respected.

AWARE.org's 2026 FASD research highlights the need to look beyond individual choices and recognise the social factors that can make a difference.

South Africa Wine supports Aware_ZA FASD Prevention Campaign and its message: we all have a role to play.

Arbor Week gives us a good reason to get our hands dirty and plant something that will be here long after we are.

South Africa Wine staff spent the day planting trees at Nieuwe Drift Primary in Noorder-Paarl, adding greener spaces to the school grounds.

The trees were generously donated by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries, with Drakenstein Municipality assisting by providing the tools needed to plant them.

A big thank you to Nieuwe Drift Primary for welcoming us, to the Department of Agriculture and Drakenstein Municipality for their support, and to our South Africa Wine staff who gave their time and energy to make the planting day possible.

It’s a small investment in a more sustainable future for the school and its learners.

For wine producers, frost is no longer just a seasonal nuisance; it has become an escalating, high-stakes threat to vineyard survival. Over the last eight consecutive years, both the frequency and intensity of severe frost events have increased drastically, particularly in low-lying blocks near rivers, where freezing air pools overnight. A single freezing event immediately following budburst can destroy young shoots, wipe out vulnerable flower clusters, and lead to devastating crop losses. Proactive risk management is the only way to safeguard your yield and secure your harvest.

Watch this practical, boots-on-the-ground video case study to discover how South African growers are utilising both passive vineyard design and active tools to survive the freeze.

South Africa Wine's board came together this week for a two-day strategic session to look ahead and consider what is needed as the industry navigates a challenging environment. They are acutely aware of the pressure facing the industry, and the conversations were honest and focused on where we can act with purpose. There was strong discussion around growing demand in the local market, tourism and export markets, as well as the role of data and information, sustainability, leadership development and skills in supporting the industry's future.

These sessions are an important part of good governance. They give the board the space to ask questions, challenge thinking and provide clear direction for the work ahead.
