Our Expresso Pinotage has landed, and this is one we have been waiting to share. A 250ml single-serve can filled with Paarl-grown Pinotage, dark plum, ripe blueberry, toasted oak and that mocha-edged finish that makes coffee-style Pinotage such a South African favourite.

We sat down with Handré, one of our winemakers, to ask a few of the serious questions that happen outside the tasting notes. Is he reaching for Pinotage or Cabernet Sauvignon, and when the fire is getting started, is he a charcoal man or wood guy through and through?

There is always a bit of personality behind the wines, and in the Boland that matters. The people in the cellar bring their own preferences, habits and ways of seeing things, and all of it forms part of the wider Boland story we are proud to share.

Our NEWLY LAUNCHED Expresso Pinotage has landed in a 250ml can, and we’re absolutely thrilled about this one. It’s bold, smooth and built with the same Boland backbone, now ready for cooler boxes, braais, festivals, road trips and wherever the day takes you.

Made from Paarl-grown Pinotage, with dark plum, ripe blueberry and that mocha-edged finish from toasted oak, this is coffee-style Pinotage with no coffee added. Just exceptional fruit, exact winemaking and a can that knows exactly what it came to do. Break the mould and keep things interesting.

There is no romance in long days and early starts, but there is always pride in it. There is pride to the Boland, in watching over vineyards, in making the right call at the right time and carrying responsibility season after season. Winemaking doesn't just take place in isolation, there is growing and there are decisions and there are lots of people.

Boland Cellar was built by people like this. Practical people. Hard-working people. Boland people.

Behind every vintage is a team making hundreds of decisions from vineyard to bottle. At Boland Cellar, Handré leads that work as Head Winemaker, overseeing the journey from grape intake through to final blending and bottling. His role asks for precision, judgement, and a clear vision for the wines that carry the Boland Cellar name.

Since entering the wine industry in 2005, Handré has built his experience across South Africa, while also spending harvest seasons in California and Australia’s Barossa Valley. Those years broadened his understanding of vineyards, climates, and winemaking styles, knowledge he now brings home to Paarl and the Boland region.

Handré works closely with growers and viticulture teams, placing strong focus on vineyard selection, harvest timing, and fruit quality. In the cellar, he combines technical skill with practical understanding to produce wines that remain true to their origin while meeting the standards expected of every Boland Cellar release. We are proud to have him as part of the Boland family.
