What happens when a winemaker hits the road?

It’s a back-to-back combination of trade visits, customer tastings and in person updates about Vondeling Wines’ latest releases and news.

Emile’s visit to Gauteng, Mpumulanga and Limpopo was a great success – the week included sell out food and wine pairings at both Zest and 64 Coolmore and feedback from our fans is that the latest vintages of Vondeling Babiana, Baldrick, Monsonia and Rosé are superb!

Thanks to our up country friends, fans, agents and suppliers for your hospitality and enthusiasm.

We end October on a great note after some wonderful accolades, customer engagement and new insights into some of our most loved wines.

We are now heading into those crucial summer months and the vines are bursting with life and vibrant colour. Energy is high on the farm…

Emile says “it’s wonderful to see the vines come to life with brand new Kawasaki green shoots that will be carrying our grapes for the next season. If you stare at them long enough you can see them grow.”

Lots is happening right now in Basson’s world too “we are in full swing and super busy right now!” he says.

“This is when we pay a lot of attention to quality - working on the soil balance and suckering the vines to promote good fruit quality - it’s intense work but ultimately so worth it!”

As summer nears we look forward to more updates from our tireless Vondeling teams.

As the 100 Years of Pinotage celebrations draw to a close, we reflect on our iconic Bowwood Pinotage and two of its standout vintages…

🍷 2021 – ‘Red Wine of the Year” at La Sélection Wine Awards in Switzerland, the judges noted it as “... very harmonious, elegant…with a long finish.” This vintage showcases the remarkable age-ability of premium Pinotage with layers of dark fruit, spice, and elegant tannins that have harmonised beautifully over the years.

🍷 2015 - the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Absa Vintage Pinotage Excellence Award, this magnificent wine is a must for any aficionado and is an exceptional expression of terroir capturing Bowwood at its finest.

We are proud that both of these Bowwood vintages set the standard for South African Pinotage at its absolute finest.
