What a privilege to host the final year W**emaking students from Elsenburg at F.S. Smit & co.

They had the oppurtunity to see firsthand how our coopers assemble a barrel, shape the staves, and fire toast the interior over an open flame.

A valueble look into the craftmanship behind every barrel and the role oak and toast play in shaping w**e's character.

Carlo hard at work for a new exciting project:

Where we are implementing Yakisugi, a traditional Japanese wood-preservation technique where the surface of the wood is carefully charred to create a deep black finish.

Originally used to protect timber against weather, insects, and decay, the technique also gives the wood a striking, natural texture.

We are using this method on the outside of selected w**e barrels to achieve a bold black finish while still keeping the character of the wood visible.
