Joostenberg Estate and Gerakaris Family Wines joint tasting at a Jozi winery 🍷

Good friends of mine, Kath and Minos Gerakaris, own a small winery in Jozi - yes, Jozi! The grapes, thankfully, don’t come from Jozi. Summer rainfall in Gauteng makes grape growing rather challenging so they truck grapes up from the Cape and make the wine in their lovely little winery in Craighall Park. They’ve been doing it for about 15 years.

I haven’t visited the winery for several years, so I thought it was about time I caught up with them. I’m planning to visit on 18 September. Kath and Minos have kindly given the thumbs-up to turn my visit into a little “group visit”.

Kath and I will each pour four wines and share the stories behind them. After the tasting you are welcome to buy a bottle or 2, order pizzas from Delta Café next door and hang out with us. It should be a relaxed evening of good wine, good food and good company.

Date & time: Friday, 18 September 2026, from 6pm

Where: Gerakaris Family Wines, Gate B, 76 Marlborough Avenue, Craighall Park

Food: Feel free to order takeaway pizza from Delta Café after the tasting and hang out with Kath, Minos and Tyrrel for a few hours.

Join us for our next Vineyard & Winery Walk on Saturday, 12 September. 🌿🍷

Guided by our winemaking team, the morning starts with coffee or tea and a pastry on arrival, followed by a walk through the vineyards and winery, and a Joostenberg wine tasting.

Fairhead is more than a blend of the white varieties grown on Joostenberg. It’s a tribute to Gillian Fairhead Myburgh, the former matriarch of the farm whose love for gardens, flowers and the land helped shape the Joostenberg we know today. Named in her honour, this wine carries a little of that same care, generosity and quiet strength in every vintage.

This Women’s Day, we raise a glass to Gillian, and to the women who nurture, inspire and leave places better than they found them.

No two walks are ever quite the same.

The vineyards change with the seasons, there’s always something happening in the cellar, and every walk offers a different glimpse into life on the farm.

Join us for a relaxed morning that begins with pastries and tea/coffee at 09h30, followed by a guided walk on the farm and ends with a tasting of our estate wines at around 12h00.
