Winter is when the sheep and cows get their turn to shine.

While the vineyards rest, our animals move through the farm grazing cover crops and returning valuable nutrients back to the soil. It’s a simple cycle, but an important one. Healthy animals help build healthy soils, and healthy soils help grow better grapes.

Nature has a pretty sweet system when we let it do its thing. 🌱🐑🐄

Different vessels are used to shape each wine.

Clay amphoras for texture and gentle oxygen. Concrete eggs for balance and movement. Old oak barrels for structure without overpowering. Stainless steel for freshness and purity.

The vineyards are starting to shift.

Greens giving way to gold, rust and deep red as autumn settles in. The pace slows, the leaves turn, and the season begins to change.

A different kind of beauty in the rows now.

Bakermat red blend - made for this time of year.

Richer, deeper, and right at home with slower meals and cooler evenings. The kind of wine that settles in as winter starts to creep closer.

Set at the heart of Joostenberg Wine Estate, the Manor House dates back to 1756 - a quiet anchor to the farm’s long history. With its classic Cape Dutch lines and thick whitewashed walls, it reflects the early heritage of the region.
Over the years, it has remained central to life on the farm. A place where generations have lived and worked, shaping what Joostenberg is today. Surrounded by vineyards and old trees, it stands as a reminder of where it all began and how it continues.

Fairhead is a blend that tells a very personal story. Named after Gillian Fairhead, the Joostenberg matriarch, it’s a wine that honours the women who have shaped the estate over the years.

Each vintage brings together the white varieties grown on the farm - Chenin Blanc at its core, with Roussanne, Viognier and a touch of Alvarinho adding layers and character.

With Mother’s Day coming up, this one feels especially fitting. A bottle that carries a story of care, patience, and quiet influence - much like the women it was made to honour.
