Established in 2012, husband and wife team Ivan and Antoinette Smook, having a passion for food and innovation, developed a brand new concept for the ready to eat food sector. We are humble but proud to say that we are the first and only producer of a range of pre-cooked, frozen, individually wrapped portions of vegetables that gives you the consumer 100% choice and ready to eat in 2 minutes. Four
individually wrapped portions of 80 gram each are packed in a retail packet. You can decide how many portions as well as what type of vegetable you would want to enjoy. The rest stay wrapped and protected in the freezer. There is also a variety pack that contains 4 different vegetables in one packet, specially packed for the bachelor / bachelorette. We produce a quality product based on traditional South African recipes that will taste as if mom made it especially for you. There were many reasons driving Ivan and Antoinette to develop this innovative concept which we feel we want to share with you. It is often said that South African men consider chicken to be their vegetable or salad. Sadly this often deprives the partner from also not eating their vegetables. With NuVeg portions each partner can enjoy what they like. We did however keep the men in mind and made a lekke Potato bake in cheese sauce to go with the chicken salad. Jokes aside. It is common knowledge that people worldwide, do not eat the prescribed amount of 3 to 5 vegetables and fruit per day. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that life has become more rushed, both partners work a full day and making vegetables at night after a hard day’s work is just too much effort. Take out is often the alternative. Food wastage was also a big drive. There are so many people that do not have the privilege of a daily meal. Food wastage often occurs without intent when fresh vegetables go off in the refrigerator. With Nuveg there is no food wastage as you only remove what you need. The rest stay protected in the freezer in its own individual packet with no freezer burn when outer retail packet is opened. Our own research also made us aware that older people also neglect eating their vegetables as it simply too much of a daunting task for them to make vegetables on a small scale. Sad but true. With NuVeg it is quick, easy and safe for any age to prepare small quantities within 2 minutes. No part is too small to make a difference. We also developed our packaging in such a way that it was not necessary to use laminated paper as is normally used for freezer packaging. This ensures that our packaging is 100% recyclable compared to the standard freezer packaging. Our packaging is also 60% lighter than similar products reducing the carbon footprint on transport.
